Now the season is over, time to see who you want in and out.
KEEP:
Butler
Taye
Reid
Piergianni
Would not be surprised if Reid and Piergianni both leave in the summer.

When will people start demanding to know our retained list? Tomorrow? Next week? Three minutes after the final game of the season?

3pm on the 27th April. Evans could do a live announcement in front of fans in the 76.

Don't the players normally get called in 1 by 1 for a cheer each?
Evans could direct them into 2 groups as they do and shout 'staying' and 'gone' after each cheer as he separates them off

Or maybe he sends the players to the East Terrace and the fans decide who stays and who goes.
We'd have a squad of three - but it'd be Teh Peoplez Chois

Vancooten needs to stay. We need creativity in midfield, as Saturday showed we can't break teams down if they sit back.
A couple of decent loans from Championship clubs would help.

The way results have gone in the second half of the season does make me worry slightly about second season syndrome kicking in next season. Some big clubs coming up too

I think next season's league will be closer at both ends (obviously still don't know all who are going to be in League One).
This season had a quite a few crap teams and some very good ones.
Next season I think teams will be more evenly matched with fewer crap teams so will all be quite close together, but equally not as many top sides breaking away, so maybe more playoff spots up for grabs come the end of the season.

Toyally disagree. This season did not have "quite a few good ones" at all. Next season will be significantly stronger than this year.
Same as L2 was this year compared to last. Luckily we did the job last year and took advantage, but were unable to this year. I will be very (pleasantly) surprised if we are chasing playoffs again next season.

Re: Ins & Outs

I meant the top five when I said "quite a few". They broke away from the rest and left only 4 or so teams playing for one spot with about 7 games to play.
I think that top five may turn into a top 2 and leave about 10 teams playing for the playoff spots further towards the end of the season.
Then I see less of a gap between the bottom few and mid table.
So overall a better quality league with team being closer to each other in terms of quality rather than the stretched league we had this year.
And yes I think it will be overall stronger as a result.

Re: Ins & Outs

I see.
I was meaning purely in terms of actual quality. The quality at the top of L1 is poor this season IMO.
And the fact that the rest of the league are adrift of the top bunch means they really aren't very good, and the league really is of a poor standard this year.
I do agree that I too suspect there will be more parity at the top of the league next season as it will be of an overall higher quality.

Aye, and I'm not sure if we'll be in those top 10 fighting for playoffs unless we make some astute signings.

Re: Ins & Outs

I think he means relative to the rest of the league. The top 3 or 4 in league 1, and then 4-6th, are standout higher than the rest of the league. Compare the points of the top 7 or so in League 1 vs league 2, and it's clear league 2 was more competitive as they have lower points totals for the position.
League 1 next season seems like it's going to be more competitive, as you point out, which means the top 7 will probably have lower points totals than this season, and not be as detached from the teams in 8th-15th as this season

Stockport and Wrexham are upgrades on Carlisle and whoever follows them down.
Birmingham and Sheffield Wednesday would be huge forces if one or both come down.

Correct.
All four coming up will be better than all four going down IMO. Likewise two of those coming down I actually think we will be better than two of the three going up (the top end of L1 really is nothing special this year).
Plus clubs like Charlton, Reading, Wigan etc. should be a lot stronger than this year too.
Give me top ten again next season and I snap your hands off right now.

Fairly sure the following are under contract for next season:
Ashby-Hammond
James-Wildin
Vancooten
Sweeney
Piergianni
Butler
B Thompson
L Thompson
Freeman
Roberts
Forster-Caskey
Reid
Pressley
There might be one or two others as well (e.g., Anderson).
Of course some may go if the offer is right for them and the club. It's still a good core to work with though going into the summer window.

Agree with your picks would also keep vancooten and Wildin been solid players and have potential to be solid league one to championship players, everyone else has to be gone in the summer if we want to be competitive,

We have a good squad, now we know how these players handle league one football, get rid of fringe players and build on what we got, obviously can?t help selling if club can?t refuse offers coming in, on a more important note, lose our manager and we?re fucked!
