Pools?

Any of you used to do the pools? I have vague memories of my dad doing them, and the results were on the Australian matches in the summer.
Spot the ball was also quite popular

My old man used to collect the Pools and I used to traipse the streets of Webb Rise and Archer Road every Thursday night with him.
Was an absolute ball ache. He used to get 12.5p for every pound collected.

Our pools collector when I was a kid banked a quid for every quid collected.

As a young lad I couldn't fatham out what the pools were all about. There seemed to be different connotations depending on how much you wanted to spend.
All I remember was my Dad used to pick the same 11 numbers on the coupon each week.
He didn't win a farthing!

Yes my old man used to do the littlewoods pools when I was a kid. Use to take them round to Alec’s newsagents on a Friday with him.
He won £5k one week back in the 70’s.
There use to be a special stamp with the crosses on for Spot the Ball.

I also remember Horace Batchelor on Radio Luxembourg and his “Infra draw method” ……..He also put Keynsham on the map, where he operated from, and used to spell it out every week.

I remember when the game was called off the guy doing the classified scores on BBC would give the pools panel result "home win" or "score draw" etc.

The ball was always miles away from where you thought it'd be.
