Glass half empty
Views: 1097
Been a good season but can't help feeling disappointed. Going eight games without a win in a run which contained Fleetwood, Carlisle and Orient was disappointing to say the least.
Whilst 9th & 71 pts is a good finish, I still feel underwhelmed and believe we should have done better.
MacG getting one clean sheet from eleven is very disappointing, likewise Oliver not scoring once in over 9 hours of football isnt great.
Squad was probably good enough to get the playoffs, just a shame the wheels fell off.
Shame, but can't be too upset.
Don't think Revs, Garrard or Ainsworth would be the right appointment for a team that appear to need some inspiration.
Hopefully a rebuild and an ambitious manager joins in the summer.
Cheers,
InvaderOfPitches

All in all a good season. Mac in goal gave me zero confidence. On Saturday he was rooted to his line for the corners, and Cheltenham quickly realised he wasn't commanding his 6 yard box, and tried to capitalise on it. The club is moving forwards, and lets hope we continue next season. This is an important summer. In my 'world' I like us to sort the central midfield, and striker positions, and get a decent backup for Taye. We need creativity in midfield, and we could do with more pace up top. Lets hope we can utilise the loan system and get some young, hungry players in.

Chatted to Taye briefly. When I said ?how?s the injury?? he hesitated and looked confused and then said, ?oh it?s fine now?. Hmmmmm

He (just?) won MK's player of the year, players' player and goal of the season.
Edits because I keep updating every time he tweets another award. Fair to say he's had another good season in League Two. He was superb for us.

If we'd had a half decent January window, we would've.
Maybe now the lad Evans has gone, we can admit that not everything he touched turned to gold.

Not easy to find good signings in January, but yeah, it was a poor one.

In the end we were just two wins short of a play-off place. Can't help thinking that if we had seen less of Oliver (and more of Freeman) in the final third of the season we might well have got them. I will be forever grateful for the past two seasons, but I won''t miss SE's constant rants at officials, nor his assertions that every club is full of good players and much better than their league position would suggest. He can have Reidy if the fee is big enough, but hands off Pidge.

Terrible refereeing cost us a play off place. This is a FACT nobody can deny.

Actually think he will be after Pidge as well plus LJW and TVC .Good news is all in contract and even for a club like Rotherham overall transfer fees could be too much ?

Yep, his right foot is a wand.
Have him right of a back five, promotion in the bag.

Or had we not pissed about with one-clean-sheet-in-11-games MacGillivray when he first came in, or had he not put Pressley on the naughty step for three months.
Hopefully he buys Roberts, but leave Taye and Pidge.

Taye will only properly learn humility if Evans signs him in order to bench him again.

On his form since Christmas he can have Roberts for free. Entirely agree about the other two.

We finished about where I expected but the capacity was there to do better.
Evans made some selection and tactical errors but overall I think our squad was unbalanced - not enough goalscoring threat.
We tried to correct this in January but could only get Hemmings and Oliver because goalscoring is the most expensive attribute and that's where we are as a club in this league.

I genuinely think if we retained some of the key players from last season we would have made playoffs.
Gilbey was key in midfield.
Up front, I think Rose and Norris were better options than any of the strikers we brought in this year.
What's done is done. We were excellent up til February and then ran out of steam. It was a good season overall, but had the potential to be a great one.

Yep. It was absolutely crucial to keep keep Gilbey and we couldnt do it for whatever reason.
Also evident that Rose and Norris are better than Hemmings and Oliver.
From what Ive heard Norris wanted a 3 year deal to stay. Probably not worth it with his injury history.
Again I believe it was geography for Rose. I think he would have been worth a 3 year deal to tempt him to relocate.. Very rarely injured and gave 100% every game. Glad hes doing well for himself, shame it£s not with us.

Rose needed to move north, sadly. Nozza arguably past his best.
Hemmings is better than many give him credit for being. He played a crucial part in Reid's success IMO.

Still felt a bit of a panic move as we'd got Pressley and McNeill in with Reid, Robbo and theoretically List already in that position.
