Govt looking to review whether to allow drinking in sight of the pitch at designated football matches.

Good idea?

Personally I dont want to be showered in weak lager every time we score by someone recreating boxpark for clicks.

I can see it creating issues on a terrace where social norms are already ignored by some.

I can drink before, at halftime and after a game. Going 45 minutes without one isn't an issue. We are all used to it now. Same as not smoking in the ground (fatty vape man is still an issue for Wasp I guess)

But serving drinks to grown ups, probably at a premium rate, in a designated premium seating area, and leaving the blinds open on boxes is a reasonable cash generating idea and shouldn't create stewarding issues.

But men with bladders the size of golf balls shuffling past people to go for a wee every 15 minutes will be more of a bloody nuisance than it is now.

Bad idea for reasons you have given.

Also it will add to the cost of going to football for those who want to drink during the game.

One difference between now and the 80s I guess is that we have more CCTV so could more easily identify anyone throwing beer or getting into fights and ban them. Then we might be left with more civilised fans who can sensibly drink alcohol during matches like at the cricket.

You couldn’t drink in grounds in the 80s. You couldn’t get to the khazi if it was busy either
