Sheffield Wednesday and Wimbledon postponed

As expected. Not sure why League 1 bothers with scheduling games during international breaks anymore with the number of call-ups.
Better to schedule it for a Tuesday evening when the fixtures are released in June than give fans false hope of a Saturday game.

Only just realised game arranged for a Tuesday night in Nov , why unless EFL stepped in. Could be a free Dec or Jan date if both teams go out of FAC rd 1 or 2..Just wait and rearrange for a midweek date in New Year if this does not happen.

The only free date we have is Sat 5th December when fa cup 2nd round is on. Would only be possible if both teams lose in the 1st round, so seems very unlikely and not worth the risk as December saturdays dont exactly scream full house. Remember the 86 club at Oxford?

Elite athletes in athletics compete half a dozen times a year. Maybe a dozen times. Boxers? 2 or 3 fights max.
They train, starting at a low intensity (by their standards) and build intensity towards peak fitness at one meet/fight, then rest.
How many proper compettitive games do top.footballers have to hit peak for? 45, 50, 60?
Elite footballers that went some distance at the World Cup will break if they dont get a proper break. They finished in the USA had a week or 2 off then straight into pre-preseason and proper preseason.
I'd pull out too if I was Declan Rice if meant a lighter load for 3 weeks, focus on my club and 'proper' internationals. They play way too many matches, club and country.
We can't expect elite athletes even at our level to perform consistently without proper breaks in the cycle.
No matter how well they are paid and how hard they work compared to us (well, you, not me, I do fuck all).

Good comments but the apparent whole point of this was to try to stop the old pointless friendlies, does not seem to be working that way ? Will be interesting to see how many of the top nations players pull out stats wise.

Yeah but Nations Leagues aren't proper qualifiers still, regarded almost as glorified friendlies because if you do badly you can still qualify via the old route.
And the WC has got bigger. The European club competitions have got much bigger and the preseason far east and US tours all have an impact... All about the $$ sadly.

Good point, but isn't it players who didn't go to the WC?

A mix I think.
But take Cole Palmer for example, didn't go because of poor form last season, because he was carrying injuries from a very busy season before, 55+ games.
Now he's hit form again. And probably knows the rest over the summer helped him so why not have another light 3 weeks and stay fit and hopefully get picked when it matters.
Saka and Rice will almost certainly break badly this season because of the relentless demands.
I dont support any PL club but I do like to watch elite players fall over play well as we all do.

oh yes, it sucks. Especially if you don't watch the B Team Pizza Cup.
But its a chance to get a list of jobs done.
Im fitting a new shower this week and painting the bathroom, I've already prepped and repainted my shutters and split half a ton of logs.
I've got 9 mΒ² of firewood being delivered that needs stacking and splitting, a dead plum tree to dig up out and about 5 tip runs to do to clear one of the sheds so I should be able to fill my Saturday afternoons for 2 weeks :(

The AFC Wimbledon game was at our request according to them.
Presumably the Sheffield Wednesday one was mutually agreed.
Edit: actually Sheffield Wednesday's article says due to us receiving the required number of call ups, but suspect they will also have wanted to.

A 4 game international window too.
Luckily for Josh Mags he's now in the best physical shape of his life πͺ Pidge will have him BEASTING our deadlifts in his free time.

Moved here to keep his international career going apparently. Can sit on the bench for them and watch Reid meander around for the entire break hopefully.

the more difficult matter for the clubs with a lot of players away is keeping those behind motivated and fit.
Maintaining some variety and edge to training is a challenge.
Without competitive games players will get bored and could lose focus very quickly.

EFL Trophy games will help but there's still a 2 week gap between these with no league games in between.
Wouldn't be surprised if there's a BCD game against a nearish Champ/L1/L2 team who's league games are also postponed in this gap.
