Just listened to Jack Wilshere on Stick to football podcast.
About 10 minutes in he said "Stevenage just want chaos and long balls" and then went on to moan that both our goals shouldn't have stood, as one was a foul and the other an offisde.
So still bitter.
Gary Neville (who brought Pidge into Salford) asked him if Pidge was still at Stevenage. (I was shocked he disnt know). Wiltshire said "yeah and he won every bloody duel"
Good listen, Jack is more intelligent than I thought he would be.

Those moaning that Phillips held the Luton player just before the first goal.
My take on it is that the Luton player could easily have moved forward away from Phillips. He just wanted to look like he was being fouled to try and get Dan second yellow. It’s the type of play acting that is blighting the game. It backfired on him.

Yeo, they were both going at it equally, so play went on as is the directive.
Correct call, goal given.
They should also have had a red card.
And we should technically have had a penalty as the shirt pull on Roberts carried on into the area.
But yeah, poor Luton.

We had 3 good shouts for penalties. That one, the Kemp incident when he got past the goalkeeper and the handball. If the Kemp incident had been given, it should have been a red card. I agree our second goal was offside. Other than that there's a lot of whinging coming from over the Bedfordshire border.

Luton and Chris Powell focussing on the officials and talking about needing VAR in his post match Sky interview.
Forgetting that they should have had a player sent off and we should have had a penalty.
Even bringing up our goal against Wigan last season 😂
Yeah refs favour little Stevenage.
The ref was crap, but it wasn't just against Luton. They need to focus on their performance not the officials.

One of the best things of non-Premier League football is there's no VAR. The ref was dogshit for both teams, so maybe the refereeing body need to address the general level of refereeing rather than invest in soul-destroying tech solutions

Gave the first yellow way too early. Set out his stall and tried to be tough but just resulted in a flurry of soft cards in what was always going to be a feisty affair.
Whilst bottling a marginal penalty on Roberts, and the red-card, which was blatant. It doesnt have to be deliberate to be a foul, their player ran into the back of Kemp and their legs tangled. It was a foul all day.

A lot of their fans in response to their FT tweet are saying that people will blame the officials to disguise how shit they were and that they deserved nothing from it.
They seem more annoyed that I dared to call it a local derby, claiming it is not and never will be a derby. Not sure how a match between two sides about 15 miles apart isn't, but okay.

Arguably it’s always been a derby of sorts given the proximity of the clubs. Over the last 15 years or so we’ve played them a lot in competitive, meaningful games and vied for a title/play-off positions with them. We also rustle them massively now, mainly because they think we’re beneath them. For those reasons it’s a proper derby now in my mind.

of course its a derby. Look up the definition. it's based on proximity, not animosity or history.
its not even debatable. Unless you set an arbitrary distance limit of 13 miles.
Woking was never a derby for the same reason. we just dont like each other.

In the last six years they've played Watford in the league six times and us three times, so they're more justified than they were in 2007-19 when they played us eight times and Watford no times.

That’s slightly disingenuous though as it isn’t taking this season as a whole. In reality that's three seasons in the same league as Watford to two in our league over the last six. Roll that back over the last couple of decades and we’ve been in the same league as them far more often than they have been with Watford.

Fair play to them ones, but Chris Powell spent 10 minutes talking about officials and big decision costing them the game, how the officials need to get better, reflect on what they've done and how VAR would have meant they win tonight. I mean come on.
It's clearly a derby. Sky called it a derby being just 15 miles apart. We might not be great rivals or have too much history but it's the definition of a derby match. Like us v Hitchin would be.

Having Steve Evans there helped as he gave a good account of us (naturally) and Matt Bloomfield was unbiased. The co commentator was a bit pro Luton, not sure who it was.
But yes it was nice to see much of the focus on us. Maybe because we were at home and usually when in Sky (proper Sky) we are the away team.

We kept a clean sheet against Peterborough and then only conceded from a penalty against Barnsley (which was harsh) and a massive (lucky) deflected goal today. So defensively although we haven't had clean sheets we are looking better now, whilst still scoring at the other end.

Fantastic result & even better was the performance. Midfield was excellent - Phillips, Thompson & Roberts did really well.
I am excited about Broggio & Smith put himself about. Sanderson is looking better every game & Magennis is nicking goals which is something we’ve been crying out for.
The defence were solid - Luther particularly played well.
Not one bad performance tonight & the passion was obvious from the players. A great night & a thoroughly enjoyable game!

Phillips and Thompson are players who I've never fully made my mind up about, but tonight was the best of them. Robbo showed what he can do flinging himself to the floor after getting under the ball and battling instead of running straight into his man with the ball still in the other half.
Sanderson looks like he gets it and has the ability to do it.
I thought Luther was outrageous but that's his level now.

The front 3 are working very well together at the moment. I really like the look of Sanderson. Magennis has been immense and everything you'd hope for in an experienced striker. Much better than Reid in that position.
Really like the look of Broggio too but can't break into the starting lineup at the moment.
Mellon is slightly underwhelming at the moment (partly because had more expectation on him). Doesn't run as hard as the like of Broggio and Sanderson.
The rest pretty much the same as last season and now reaching the right levels.
A good evening.
