Especially as some of us were saying we now have the pieces to create and score goals. A very nice first match post-deadline day to back that up.
We would have scored none if Reid was still here.
Edit: Only the fifth time we have ever scored five times in a League One match, and ninth in an EFL match. Not bad for a defensive manager who only wants 0-0s.

As I've always said, Philips is a liability in midfield.
His 'beast mode' will win him fans, but he's not what I would want in the centre.
He's not technically or postionally good enough to play in any of the midfield positions, which is a shame, as he'd be a hell of a player if he was.

I think everyone watching thought the same. I posted in our group chat that this was the first time I was actually worried about the season. Then a complete turnaround. Won't get carried away with it, but certainly a confidence booster.

I don't think he was having a mare, but we needed a different type of player in the middle. Someone to chase down a bit more with more tenacity. Put some pressure on them as they were just passing around us like we weren't there.

hmmm. look better and have more bite since the change. Sent the right message to the players maybe, that we need to run more, play quicker and tackle harder.
Theyre a good side, at home on the back of some good results. They were always going to dominate the opening 20 minutes.
We've woken up last 10 of that half. Still a big, big ask for us but we are in the game

Barnsley look decent in the first ten, they've definitely improved. Proof that a side put together over the summer doesn't need adjustment time.
I do like the distribution from this new gk though, much better. Although Revs will coach the quick play out off him 😉

Terrible first 20. Subbed swung some momentum back to us. Keeper has mis-kicked 3 long balls already, thought you'd be all over that.
Sanderson would be get up top with Magennis rather than stuck out on the wing. To accommodate Kemp who just falls over whenever in a good position.
It may take a bit longer than I was expecting to get a settled side who knows what each other is doing.

Barnsley had a worse collapse than an England middle order. I'm glad we took full advantage of it. It was like watching two different games from the the first 20 and the second half.
Having said that, Barnsley almost scored right after half time with a crucial clearance off the line from TVc. It's these fine margins that we were on the wrong side of previously and managed today to get on the right side of them, and what a different it makes.
I've been to all our 5+ goals away game EFL wins I think!

I was one of the 37 or whatever it was that actually went today. I have some random thoughts.
Barnsley started well and we looked dreadful. I despaired. I hadn’t expected anything at all from the game and we looked nailed on for defeat, unable to create anything at all and regularly gifting the ball to them. Very happy/amazed for Olly that we equalised before the break. Change of heart from me and the players in second half. Farley and I had chatted at HT and he of course was confident we could win, whereas I wasn’t sure and thought that if we did win we might only nick a lucky 2-1. But of course things fell into place and I was one of the happiest chanters of ‘we want 6’ by the end. So so pleased for all the scorers, but especially Mellon - I said before he came on that this looked like a game he could influence and I’d expect him to score; this turned out true.
But despite this wonderful result, and the clear beginnings of an attacking game with better forward players, I wouldn’t say we taught Barnsley a lesson in silky-skills football. Their defence, for reasons known only to them, went absent for the second half and we walked through them time and again. It won’t always be like that. It didn’t look to me like it was a game of particular pace either - Barnsley started a bit like that, but our dominance in the second half came flavoured with a lot of walking about and fairly relaxed pace, whilst Barnsley offered nothing. It began to feel a bit too easy, but if that means we dominate a ‘strong’ side away from home then that’s fine with me.
I didn’t like Setford in the first half, woeful distribution, but by midway in the second he’d redeemed himself and hugely improved in all areas of his performance. (And actually, the Barnsley keeper was no better at his kicking either).
A real joy to witness and so very glad I went. I have hugely adjusted my expectation of the season as a result of today. Much better Boro. Well done people.

R.e. keeper distribution, wasn't there today (social reasons!) but wonder if this comes down to the age-old definition of what constitutes "good". Think we ask keepers to play percentages: hit Roberts/diagonals and better to go out of play than gift position in dangerous positions....
On another note, UTFB!!!!!!!!!!!! Went insane as the score ticked upwards! Really really positive vibes about the decisions the club have made
