Millwall apparently bid for him.
I do not rate him anywhere near as highly as many seem to, so if a decent bid I would accept it.

Not even in their squad tonight.
presumably the registration needs to be logded 24 hours before KO?
At least BGR made Reading's bench...

According to the Athletic we are in for Tommy Setford on loan from Arsenal. He was going to Las Palmas but the deal collapsed. Imagine having your heart set on a move to the Canary Islands and ending up in Stevenage...

If we sold him for less than 1m I'd purchase a season ticket so I could throw it on the pitch at the next game.

Almost certain that Barden will play tonight as any replacement for Marschall wouldn't be registered in time.

Re: Marschall

We will have to get someone in regardless of Bardens ability; we can't go into the season with 1 senior GK and youth backups.
It'll likely be a loan GK from a Champ/Prem side.
It'll be 50/50 as to whether they're any good; for every Taye, Cooper or Cumming, there's been an Anang, Hegyi, Savin (although he was from Accrington) etc)

Yeah, I think some of us may have forgotten how detrimental a poor Goalkeeper can be.
I don’t remember Hegyi being bad though.

He wasn't awful. He was just there. Made some good stops and let in a few really poor goals. I could have put in Pym in instead.

"He wasn't awful. He was just there."
Which is exactly how I described Marschall last night: "He seems to just be there and keeps a clean sheet if he has little to do. Very rarely do you applaud him making a top save or block."
Maybe I am doing him a disservice, but almost any save he makes you would be disappointed if your GK didn't make it, he doesn't command his box, and he often seems very slow to come out or react and you feel could do better for plenty of goals we concede.
Clearly some people rate him, and maybe we will end up with somebody who is at fault even more and longing for Marschall, but this is a wise move to cash in on a good offer in my eyes.

He’s got the misfortune, if you can call it that, of following on from competent keepers in Taye (pre-injury) and Cooper. Beforehand everyone was compared to Daisy and we had some stinkers in that time.
Hopefully we won’t end up in the same position as we’ve been blessed with decent keepers for a while now. Definitely agree that if a good offer comes in we should absolutely cash in, if he lives up to his potential we’ll presumably have add ons, if he doesn’t then we’ve made money regardless.

I think he's better than you give him credit for, but I wouldn't pick him over Cumming, Cooper, etc.

Re: Marschall

This is what I mean.
Taye, Cummings, Cooper, Marschall all have almost identical records in terms of goals conceded per game, clean sheets per game etc., so it isn't like Marschall is some must-keep player, as he is just next in a line of similar keepers. The difference being when I watch them, I rate and trust the others more to make unexpected saves.
Not suggesting he is bad, just don't understand why some of our fans rate him so highly.

I think specifically right now, it's the timing more than the player. I sincerely doubt we can get hold of a replacement better than Fil in the few hours remaining

But we have also lost a lot of money the past two seasons, and clearly spent well this summer, so if we can cover a decent portion of that by selling one player, whilst believing it won't severely impact us (basically decided we will stay up regardless as we aren't going up), it makes absolute sense to sell him, provided the fee is good.

He's also been linked with a move for weeks now so you'd have to hope the club have at least one option lined up in case he does leave

Re: Marschall

Question: Given we chose to sell him can we still use the emergency loan option to bring someone in after today?
Or does that only apply if a player is injured and its therefore an unexpected emergency? Can't find a clear answer.
Altho' I'd expect us to have someone young in the wings as a loan from a Champ or Prem club, albeit we are.signing them almost unseen and will have to virtually promise them the no.1 shirt till January.

Re: Marschall

Would assume we’d have to go to with Barden as by selling Marschall we’ve chosen to put ourselves in that position.
Also worth noting that emergency loans have to come from within the EFL which limits options further.

Depends what the fee is. A fee over £1m is hard to refuse which is what it would likely have taken to get a deal done on deadline day.

Dead agreed and he's off for his medical.
Villa will have a sell on fee in this deal and given the time and length of contract and that Millwall are coming into a big fee from Brighton, I expect Wallet will have made sure this is will be a record fee.

If they have just bid and we accept, we surely would have to get a loan in, with only 24 hrs left. Early post season I think he was being linked to others. EFIT now recall Sheffield W were one.

Top half Championship level? Which has to be Millwall's ambition
Not for me. A panic buy due to injury.
Good move for him, a chance to establish himself at the next level and a very big pay rise to boot.
Not great timing for us but we are always going to sell when a good offer lands in our lap, good luck to him.
