Reading were ball 23, we would have been ball 24 instead of Sheffield United, who would have been ball 23 instead of Reading.

He looked solid. A very promising debut aside from their opener which will be a learning experience. The whole team switched off for that goal too so it’s not all on him. Makes me wonder why we didn’t put him on and shift TVC to right back on Saturday. If we have the same squad available for Doncaster I want to see that, not Phillips out on the right.
As with Knight he’ll improve with game time. We have to keep balance but we also need to get competitive minutes into these younger players. The second you’re putting a centre mid at right back you’ve lost continuity anyway so use players in positions they are used to playing in.

I felt the FT booing was a bit harsh. That really wasn't a bad second half. The HT booing was justified.
Hopefully we go into Satdi with the formation and style of the second half and don't revert back to the formation and style we have tried most of the season, with Reid starting up front. But I won't hold my breath :(.

Because we have to really go for it from the off V Doncaster otherwise it's gonna get very toxic very quickly. Our fickle natives are getting restless.

If Mellon is fit/ready then him and one other. If not then Sanderson and Magennis.
I'd play a midfield diamond of Phillips, Thompson, Knight and Kemp with Kemp at the top and Phillips at the base probably.
Back 4 I'm struggling with. It's a shame Freestone and Pidge are both left footed as I think they're the best two defenders but may have to play Taylor for balance. TVC could maybe play RB if Wildin and Pattenden are still out.

I really wish Barden had played today to get a look at him (and I have never rated Marschall, who was slow to react to the first two goals again today).
Jack Taylor got beaten for the first, but otherwise looked pretty assured. And was very vocal too, which is good to see from a young CB.
Knight needed a bit more composure, but got into good positions and looked to do the right thing. Happy with first view of him.
Mellon looked keen (let's be honest, all three strikers look keen and interested, and like they want to score, which all just makes Reid look even more like he just cannot be arsed) and made some good runs I want to see from a striker.
On the flip side, I am yet to be impressed by Terry Taylor, and feel Houghton must be one of thr biggest flops for many years for us, after how gutted Plymouth fans were to lose him, when I am struggling to think of a single good match he has had for us.
Didn't hear who got MOTM, but I would have been tempted to give it to Butler, who I see had the highest rating of the match, followed by Jack Taylor.

Barden is purely a keeper on the bench. Given Taye seems to be doing the same at Barnet I don’t know why we didn’t keep him (maybe he chose to go, maybe Barden is cheaper). Better the devil you know and I will always maintain that given a good run of games Taye could regain his former level.
Marschall’s a good keeper. Limited in certain aspects but young enough to improve on them. We’ll sell him for a decent fee one day or lose him on a free and struggle to replace him (which I think many of use believed of Taye until injury intervened).

It"s always hard to tell when you're two nil down because the opposition may just be sitting back, but we have looked a lot better and more threatening since the changes and having two strikers on. Granted not scored yet, but looked far more likely to. And it's more entertaining.
Probably lose 3 nil now from committing too many forward. 😂

Yes he looks lively.
Sanderson put a good shift in. Doesn't look like he'll score many but at least has something about him. If we play a striker with him it could prove fruitful.
Mellon looks good in his brief cameo.
If the manager can pick the right players in the right formation and the players can cut out the stupid mistakes, we won't be relegation fodder.
Just need to learn from these losses.

Amazing how every other team attacks with such pace and intent, whilst we are SO slow and hesitant all the time.
Summed up when Marschall claimed the ball from a corner at 0-0, they only had a couple of players back, yet NOBODY bombed forward for him to play it to, instead we slowly played it out, by which time they had everybody back and we couldn't then break them down.
Then their opener a few minutes later was hitting us fast on the counter, exactly what we don't even try to do. Oxford's goals were the same at the weekend. Burton's goal was the same the previous week.
You can only assume we are coached/told not to do it as surely a footballer's natural instinct is to get forward as quickly as possible to try to score when the chance arises. There is absolutely no point us trying to play a slow, high-possession game if we do fuck-all with it.

Have said it for the longest time. We have to be quicker in transition if we want to use this type of football as a base. There are multiple ways to do it but ultimately when the ball turns over it needs to go forward quickly. Speed kills.

As evidenced on Saturday. 0-0, Roberts and Taylor stood on the side line to come on.
1-0 and it’s Phoenix and Taylor as we need a goal. The only conclusion I can draw from that was that Revs was happy to see out a 0-0 rather than try and take the initiative and get ahead.

At least we know now that our backup team is just as bad as the first team.
I'm old school and like two up front with pace on the wings, get to the line and cut back balls/crosses. Probably won't win leagues doing it but at least you'll score some goals and finish mid table. The pursuit of perfection with inadequate players results in terrible football.

One thing that game showed me was that I’d forgotten how much I’ve missed Butler. He was outstanding in that second half, one of the few players always aggressively trying to get forward and delivering cross after cross. We need a few more of us showing his degree of will and determination. (Also liked the look of Knight who hasn’t been here long enough to learn we don’t keep trying to get shots away!).

Dreadful first half so far. Serious questions to be asked about the management team and the decisions they have made so far this season, as well as certain players clearly no longer being good enough. However, because Revs is a young up and coming manager, and certain super fans have told me to stop being so critical of anyone in the team I am confident in saying we are going to piss the league. Remember, we had 1 win in 17 last season and our messiah got us into the top 6. Keep the faith boro fans!!

Makes having three big strikers, plus Reid, and then picking Roberts to play up front seem even weirder too. Not to mention the complete lack of pace. Don't know what we're trying to do tonight but it's not working. We are so slow going forward, take no risks and somehow have still been carved open. Dreadful

Indeed we are. I’m not being overly dramatic when I say this, but the match made me think that the Doncaster at home game could well become a barometer for our entire season. I know performances and seasons change, and I know you can never predict anything whilst still in August, but my gut feeling is that if we fail to beat Doncaster the season’s going to look quite grim.
