England completely folded after going 1-0 up. We just gave up.
I’ve turned the TV off now. Hope we get one back

Thomas Tuchel and Brendon McCullum job swap?

Football team needs to be let loose and the Test side needs to be less gung-ho.

A year off football then a club appointment where he can spend hundreds of millions to get all the players he wants, rather than working with what he's got, like all his previous jobs?

Manager got the team selection spot on and couldn’t have been more wrong with the changes he made. They’re tenacious but vulnerable defensively, parking the bus was an absolute schoolboy error.

Probably the most colossal tactical fuck up I have seen in football, watching the sport at every level.

As soon as we scored I said (positive as ever ;) ), I bet they don't learn from the Croatia game in the group stages. This will end 2-1.

Straight away (even before the subs) it was backs to the wall, not helped by Kane's insistance to camp on the edge of the area (either of his own self appointment or tactically). Look at the stats and match momentum from that exact moment. Absoutely damning.

This is a guy that is paid millions a year to do this, something everyone could see after 5 mins of it happening. The mind boggles.

I was smart and after we scored, within 10 minutes of seeing how it was going to go, I put £10 on Argentina to qualify and £10 on them to win within 90 mins and made £120 profit. I'd rather England won though. 😥

First half was spoilt by Argentina constantly fouling and being pricks like they always are.

Then we scored, and it looked like we might get a game of football but instead the manager decided lets not play anymore and just let Argentina come at us wave after wave.

Why don't Argentina play like the second half all the time instead of how they played the first half?

Also, so many of them ungracious in victory. Horrible.

We should play Jordan Henderson in goal.

Every other squad player should be declared ill with food poisoning.

End the third place farce. No-one gives a shit.

Henderson played in goal.

And I actually enjoyed that game, a nicer way to end the tournament for England than the Argentina game, but ultimately everyone will still be disappointed.

it was our best attacking performance in ages. bit of a basketball match by the end and if Olise had his eye in France would've won 7-6.

but yeah the best ending we could hope for after throwing it away tactically V Argentina. Can we play with that freedom and attacking intent when it matters? we will see.

Having said I had no interest in watching it I am glad I did. thoroughly enjoyable.

On the flip side, look how many goals they conceded, so Argentina could have won even more comprehensively by not going more defensive (Argentina had fully taken control prior to the substitutions).

Biggest kick in the nuts for me are:

Was Saka just not selected for the semi finals and why couldn't Rice handle the full 90 mins?

Rice was absolutely dead after his illness. No issue him coming off, although do think his absence is as massive for England as it is for Arsenal, and that had he been fully fit so able to stay on, England see it out with the defensive substitutions.

Saka not coming on did surprise me as he is such an outlet, but (despite his assist stats) he was coming back from injury himself and hadn't looked himself all tournament.

Saka and Rice were being protected for the final IMO. Rice recovering from illness and has a back issue and Saka clearly has a recurring niggle so minutes being managed.

Tuchel doesn't care much if they go back to Arsenal a bit dented, not his problem so could afford to throw caution to the wind last night, nothing to save them for.

And Rice was clearly almost out of gas before the hour mark.

Elite athletes need a rest, especially high energy players like wingers, full-backs and midfielders who cover the most ground. You cant sustain those levels 365. There are a lot of PL players who haven't had a break and will have muscular problems and injuries and need time out.
