I've watched every World Cup since 1998 (I was 6 and can't remember a thing other than being weirdly obsessed with the Nigerian team... If I'm even remembering that rightly).
This year I don't know if I can.
The nonsense with the tickets and the fact the US are co-hosting just leaves a bad taste in the mouth. I know we had Russia, and I know we had Qatar, but this feels like it's the straw that broke the camel's back.
My decision is made harder because Scotland qualified, and my friend is over from the states on the 17th June and we'll be travelling the Highlands and France until the 24th July. She's not a fan and the Scotland and England kick offs aren't great times.
So yeah I've been saying for months I won't be watching it and as it's got nearer I've started to waver but I think this might be it and I might break a streak of 28 years.
God what I wouldn't give for us to go back to 2002 or 2006.

Been watching the 66 World Cup
Germany were the better team playing a more modern game.
Much faster game as no delay in throw ins and free kicks, in fact the objective seems to be to take it as quickly as possible - no farting around waiting for defensive walls.
No one goes down/winning a foul - get straight up as the free kick is being taken straight away. Of course no subs
No holding in the box for corners etc, probably because if you tried it someone would thump you.
The ball has no bounce and the pitch quickly cut up.

US have now refused to allow a Somali Ref, one of top in world plus any visiting Iranian fans in to country..PS also they will only grant visa to Iran players if they travel from.Mexico to US on day of each match and leave straight after final whistle.Of course the corrupt FIFA day nothing they can do about it.

Well actually, I’m off to North Cornwall on the 20th, and usually I de- stress by turning my phone off for long periods, never watch TV especially the news.
With the shit show that’s happening over there, I see no reason to go out of my way to watch it, feels a bit un patriotic, but that’s how I feel.
Club first always!

Shows you how bad Trump's America is viewed now on the world stage, and how the FIFA-US relationship and approach to this world cup leaves a bad taste in the mouth. All pure corporate greed and proper fans thought of last as usual. Hopefully there are swathes of empty seats or ones having to be given away free that make them sit up and take note for next time.
I'll still watch as much of it as a I can though, but too many shit teams due to the expansion to 48, and them playing at 3am means I won't get up for them. Probably hang it out until the end of the 11pm game each night

It's the biggest World Cup, a lot of people are saying it, bigger than any World Cup we've ever seen. The football players are coming up, big strong centre backs, and they're crying. They're saying thank you sir, for making the World Cup like has never been done, maybe ever. And you know, it was terrible what was done to Maradona, but we're taking care of that.

I'm certainly not as bothered about this World Cup (as with the Qatar tournament) as I was with previous tournaments. Infantino and his cronies have turned the prep into a bit of a joke. I'll watch the matches in the evening, but not fussed about the overnight games. Shame, I remember watching through the night during the previous USA World Cup in 1994

The peace prize... Infantino insisting on a minimum 4 limousine cavalcade for every minute he's in the USA... ludicrous ticket prices, banning water bottles... extended half times to get adverts and a show in...
And to cap it all off, poor Harry Maguire's mum so upset in the media...
