Can see new she categories are being brought in for youngsters, good idea. But can also see the oldies concession date is being extended to 65.All for attracting new younger fans but not at expense of existing 60 to 64 yr olds, just my view.

Matchday Prices
Views: 320
G'day Borochat friends! I hope we're all summering well.
Do we know when the matchday prices will be released?
I'm looking to return to attending matches next season now I can walk (2x hip replacements - done!), but will only be able to do Saturdays, so won't be buying a season ticket as it wouldn't make financial sense.

Announced 2nd July last season.
I would assume a rise of £3 per match based on the ST rises (£2 would represent less value for a ST compared to last year based on ST rises).

There already exists an article on the Offy site saying not cheaper in advance, are to be bought via Fanbase etc., ready for when they go on sale, but it doesn't include any prices as yet, and no mentions of categories (which we won't bring back based on previous PW comments).

But the downside is as stated.

It's always around six "free matches" every season for us, sometimes five, sometimes seven (including rounding), so unless you know you are not available for a large number of matches, it makes sense to buy one.
There is the occasional match I cba with after work on a Tuesday, or when I wake up on a Satdi (especially the early KO), so I have to force myself to attend, but ultimately I know I will attend every game, and don't want to lose my prime seat, so renewing is not even a consideration (unless they really took the piss with the pricing).
Edit: If I had a terrace ticket I may have had more of a ponder about renewing this season. Not that I have bothered to renew yet.

Re: Season Ticket Moan

Now I see why they didn't advertise the prices earlier 😂
In the North Stand they have risen £45 for an Adult and £60 for a Concession compared to last season!
So the increases for Adults and Concessions are £45 (11%) for Adults and £60 (16%) for Concessions in the Norf, £35 (10%) and £40 (12.5%) in the East, and £30 (6.5%) and £35 (8%) in the West.
You also now have to go into the shop (and pay an extra £25) to pay in installments (previously free), pay an extra £5 to get a physical ST card (previously free), and go into the shop to buy with something like an NHS discount.
None of this sounds like an improvement in the fan experience that the club has peddled all week.
This is also going to heap a lot of extra pressure on Revs and the players, because if things don't go as well as this season and people have paid a lot more, the discontent of last season will be worse. This will also see plenty not buy a ST and if things aren't going well they also won't be paying the (increased) matchday prices, so even lower crowds incoming for us.

Re: Season Ticket Moan

Yep.
And another decrease in crowd numbers, and moans during games for those who have paid to attend.
I honestly fear for us this season. I expect us to be less solid defensively, to not really create much more or score many more goals, and to win less and be further down the table. So people will not be happy anyway (look at the moaning all of last season when things were going very well) and all these increases and so on will give them even more ammo.
Edit: I get the need to increase ticket prices, of course. But the rise feels too steep compared to the entertainment value (and I know it is going rate but pushing £500 for L1 football is fucking mental) and as mentioned previously, all the other stuff is just a kick in the bollocks to our fans and directly goes against what the club is saying.
Revs is never going to have had more pressure on him from our fans than this season!

These sorts of ticket prices are going to be far more common in League 1 going forward. The turnover-wage ratio decrease somewhat necessitates it.
The only way that EFL clubs can really get this down is to vote for a squad salary cap (as was introduced during COVID). However, the "bigger" clubs in the league wouldn't vote for this.

Seems like a bit of a money grab to me. In every area relating to a ST they have added a cost. And because last
season I was classed under a Concession, but now revert back to 'normal' its a bigger hit. At the moment I think I will give up my ST, and just pay for the games I attend (I missed too many games last year to make a ST worthwhile). With money even tighter this year I've got to make cut backs.

I do think, as Hitchin suggested on this thread, the best course of action with regard to concessions would have been to offer that price to those renewing a concession ST who are under the age of 65. Keeping a customer at a reduced rate is better than alienating them.
I was planning on getting a ST this season for the first time for a while but changing family circumstances and the uplift in price has made me rethink. Will just be another season of pay as I go.

As we know from this place, those who are unhappy always are the loudest, but the reactions across SM to this are very unhappy.
The lack of any prior communication about the changes, the enforced add-on fees, and making people physically attend the club shop for certain things (concession tickets or installment plan) when previously they didn't have to, and with just one month before your seat is released to general sale when many people work or live a fair distance away, just feels like an almighty fuck up, especially when they spent all week banging on about an enhanced fan experience and have then provided the exact opposite.

How else can the club secure proof you are ex -military or entitled to an age related concession? Other than popping into the shop once to show it.
Im guessing doing it on trust has burnt the club in the past.
I guess they could ask for a scan of a passport/driving licence or veteran ID / defence discount card but those are easily manipulated AND require software that might not be part of the standard fan experience package.

You get a service number within 2 about weeks.
Then decide its not for you. You've given up 2 evenings at most. And you could probably call in sick for one of those.
And you can claim to have been in the SAS, assuming 21 SAS is still at Hitchin?
Concession veteran discount for life once you have that number.

But the shadow charges. Bloody hell.
I pay for all 4 of our tickets.
So it’s an additional £25 per ticket if I want to do it in instalments.
And an additional £5 per ticket if I want a card, which I do as we collect them.
So that’s £120 on top of my total order, for fuck all. Fan experience, my arse!

Since people can't now claim their state pension until at least 66, it means those aged 60-65 will be paying more whilst they wait longer for their income to get a boost, a double whammy. Ideally the club would phase this in but the chances of that happening were always basically nil.

Your logic confuses me.
Those aged 60-65 who are looking to survive to an extent on a state pension at whatever age would stay in a job and not be a pensioner until rheir pension age is reached, so why should they expect a cheaper price than a 10 something.
If you can afford to retire before your state pension kicks in maybe you shouldn't expect a discount?

This whole thread has been fascinating. As someone who has just turned 58, I’ve been gloating this last season that I’m not far off getting a concession (daft though I’ve always thought the 60 age limit to be). Now that’s been kicked down the road. Never mind.
I’m also ex-forces (@Balders - inc 21SAS at Chelsea for 9 months secondment) but have never known of or thought to brandish my ex-forces credentials. Maybe I start that this year?? Worth a thought. I’ll look into it, but despite having endless evidence of my time in uniform, I don’t think I’ve necessarily got the ID card, if I had one - I really don’t remember it?
I was also, this very morning, going to get my first Season Ticket in many years. Show willing, I thought. But then I checked out the details and decided to just PAYG each week. No real benefit to the ST, especially with the hidden extras and the fact that I miss two or three home games each season.

The knock on affect of people not now buying a ST because of the extras is that it no longer seems worth it if you miss 3 or 4 games is that because they no longer have a ST they are more likely not to come if the game is on TV.

Spot on. I live in Suffolk now, so as Im not renewing I will definitely watch the televised games at home, then pick and choose other games to watch. When I had a ST I felt obliged to come (When fit & healthy). It's certainly going to be cheaper this way, as I will probably only attend a dozen games or so.

Also more likely to not come if we're not playing well, whereas once the club has the money up front it doesn't matter how the season pans out

You can find your number online if you have rough dates and units. I didn't know mine

I have the number - 24915988 - you never forget that! It’s just formal ID I’m wondering about.

You simply need your service number, rough start/end date (I only knew the year).
You need to prove your ID through the govt gateway but that's the same one you use for hmrc etc. Just need your photo driving licence or passport handy.
It takes literally 15 minutes max to complete.

That is another thing that annoys me when we release our STs, we don't know the matchday prices at the same time in order to know how many games we can miss to make it worthwhile.
I will be renewing regardless as I miss about one match every decade and don't want to lose my perfectly-located seat, but many people would want to know before committing.
But usually you are able to miss around six matches per season before it becomes better value to not get a ST, so if you think you will only miss about three home games, it is very likely to be better value for you to buy a ST (unless we don't raise matchday prices along with ST prices, which feels extremely unlikely).
Edit: If you pay in one go, that is, and get a digital ST. If you are somebody unable to do so and relying on the installment plan, or wanting a physical card, you will have fewer matches you are able to miss before paying on the day becomes better value, with the new admin fees added this season.
I really do not like criticising the club, but must say I think they have massively fucked this up, especially with the lack of prior warning and non-existent communication around the changes and new fees.

The club has done very well at the on-field side of things in recent years but is still tinpot at the behind scenes stuff which requires completely separate investment and expertise.

Exactly all this. In all honesty, a ST would be mildly beneficial financially but not enough to sway behaviour. 23 games @£22 is £506 against £395 for a season - good value. But remove £66 for 3 missed games and the £45 difference, eroded if I want a physical card or to travel to the shop, and I start to think that I’ll take the flexibility of PAYG. I’ll review it again when I know the new PAYG prices, but I fully agree with you that the club has missed some tricks here.

Of course Phil will care. Hes not in this for the money is he.
He cares about maximising income which means balancing keeping you lot happy with scraping together enough money to keep us within the ever tightening income/outgoings rules whilst giving Revs half a chance of being competitive.

A good businessman cares about their customers. For purely business reasons.
In Phil's case its not in order to make a profit, its to be sustainable and lose as little money as possible.
Not because he avtually worries about my gas bill.

A good businessman or woman should care about his or her customers gas bill. In other words, the overheads incurred by your customers. This should be the guage as to how much you charge for your product before you lose them as a customer. If on the other hand, the cost of the product is higher than expected but you get a great service then you might grumble but you will think "oh well, I'm getting a great service and a brilliant product then I'll stomach the increase in price"
From comments on here, quite a few will not be renewing their ST due to lack of service and price.

People moan, on here and elsewhere every single time the price goes up.
It is a bit steep this year.
But that's down to clubs paying players too much all the way down to semi-pro level.
Football is a luxury. Same as cinema tickets, theme parks and the theatre.
Everything is more expensive this year.

I can watch two films at the cinema for the price of one match. And the seats are much more comfy and it's warmer and fewer people swearing and being idiots.

Cineworld tickets vary depending on film, time slot, demand and day now I believe. Katie paid £18 a while back at Stevenage Cineworld.
Imagine if we adopted dynamic pricing for league games... let alone the cup.
If we are on a winning streak prices trickle upwards, losing streak and they go down a bit.
Luton, Cambridge and the "big clubs" up they go again.
Arsenal in the FA Cup, Spurs in the League Cup... up they go by 50%
But at least the pizza Cup games would be 36 pence, or £4 if you wanted a corporate box.

Probably go and watch Supergirl, Disclosure Day and The Odyssey when they come out soon.

and we have to wait a while for the releases to get here but Disclosure Day and Odyssey are on my watchlist.

It's still decent value compared to most other forms of entertainment that involves going out of the house. Tickets for local music are now £15-20+ and even the cinema at one of the big chains is £20 on a Saturday evening now.
Similarly pubs. They'll lose customers by putting a pint up to £6.50-£7 but they'd make a loss per pint selling it for less.
The admin fee for spreading the cost and lack of online method of verifying concession status is poor on the club's part though.

Thanks for your efforts Hitchin. If the club have any thoughts or care for their fans, it would he nice to see an explanation on the offy site.
Side note...Luton have frozen ST prices for 26/27 season and appear to be marginally less expensive than ours...just saying.

Luton are getting millions in parachute payments and have a much bigger fan base than us. We work wonders to compete with that. My West Stand S/T has increased from £420 to £455. 8.3% increase over two years. Happy with that in the circumstances.

Problem for us is we don't generate much money from gate receipts due to the small support we have. If we had 10k each game we could lower the cost a little, but as a tiny League 1 team the small fan vase bear the brunt as there's so few of us. With FFP Phil can't just throw millions of his own money at it, whether he wants to or not. With wages in our league now at silly levels there's very little wriggle room. I imagine we have just about reached our ceiling as a club, without attracting larger crowds. We are easily in the bottom 5 when it comes to attendances. And we are competing with teams that attract 10k plus. There's a limit to what we can do. And if wages keep spiralling we will find it harder and harder to maintain league 1 status.

Agree perhaps but would suggest most others clubs have much more debt than us too, robbing Peter to pay Paul and prioritise paying massive wages over statutory debts.Personally I feel clubs should have to pay HMRC etc, yes I am bias, and report it to EFL monthly and if don't sanctions start much earlier

It will be funny when finances are more closely linked to attendances and we still finish above some of the shithouse clubs the attendance police support.
