Only just found out he was at Royston golf club yesterday. If I had known I would have confronted him about the goal that never crossed the line.

A man of many talents. He’s now mastered teleportation from Canada

(Ignore this I thought it was about Lewis and not that bellend Shearer)

Like most sensible kids of his age living in Stevenage (born 80s, grew up in the 90s) he followed the Arsenal.

They asked him in the driver's press conference thing about it and he mentioned playing football in Peartree Way in Stevenage with his mates who all supported various different teams.

Really?

He is West Ham through and through and rarely admits to coming from Stevenage.

Used to be a reporter on sport for a local rag a few years back that doesn’t exist any more. Can’t remember what it was called. Not Gazette, Comet or Mercury.

Bit of trivia here but who can remember what the Comet was originally called and also what paid for paper preceded that publication.

It was called the Stevenage Sun, until Murdoch threatened to sue. Then some bright spark said 'what's brighter than the sun? I know...a comet.' And the rest, as they say, is history. I worked for it briefly and later for the Gazette.

The Comet was originally The Stevenage Sun but they had to change it because The Sun weren’t happy about it. The original paid paper was The Stevenage Pictorial.

I picked up a Comet for the first time in about 40 years a week or so ago and was surprised how slim it's become! Didn't it used to have job pages?
Mind you in '81 I remember the only jobs you could get were 'Sous Chef' or 'Prison Warden'.

'81...those were the days when local papers advertised jobs, houses for sale, cars for sale and in the classified section private car sales and any old odds and sods you wanted to get rid of. It's no surprise The Comet has become skinny. It's shed its weight to on line sales... Right Move, Autotrader and Ebay etc etc. Not too much money to be made in the press nowadays hence the likes of Neil Metcalfe being made redundant from The Comet.
