Pidge at no.1! Naturally. What a superb player and influence he has been for us. Can’t see how we’ll ever replace him (and hope we don’t have to!).

Spot on. Talk on here of Pidge's demise as a first choice player is laughable. There are so many players well into their thirties these days who remain at, or close to, their peak. What would we give for Ollie Norwood in centre midfield for example? I've seen almost all our games for the past four years, the vast majority on Ifollow. If I had a fiver for every time I've heard Steve say 'Piergianni...wins his header' I could afford to buy the club. Pidge and Robbo...proper use of the term Legends.

Indeed. He certainly isn't the best defender in the league, I think their algorithm heavily favours duels won which will boost his match rating.
But he's certainly in the top bracket and I don't think he's any better or worse than his 1st league 1 season with us,

The thing that impresses me most about Pidge is that he is at his peak (so far) in his thirties. The thing that has got him there is graft and looking after himself, that’s endearing to me and something I feel is a trait of a “Stevenage” player.
Take Norwood for example, he’s brilliant at this level don’t get me wrong but he should be having spent almost a decade and a half as a first teamer at the top end of the Championship or in the Premier League. He’s a player operating below the level he should be, Pidge is with all the will in the world doing the opposite and it’s great testament to him.
Pidge isn’t done yet. I think when the time comes for him to play less regularly we’d be foolish to not try convince him to stay here still. He epitomises the kind of person I want to see represent this club.

I never thought anyone could come close to Mark Roberts as a leader.
Rose coloured glasses mean I still favour Robbo over Pidge, he led us through such a great spell, but I have nothing beyond that, no facts or evidence to suggest Robbo was 'better'
Pidge is every inch the leader Robbo was if I view it objectively, and almost certainly a better defender.

I noticed in both playoff legs that you don't really pay that much attention every time Pidge clears it unless it prevents a genuine chance, but it happens an awful lot.

That's why I think we should cling onto him, even if he is dropping off a bit. Replacing the kind of aerial dominance he offers (not to mention leadership) will be almost impossible. Can think of a handful of strikers that have got the better of him since he's been here, but it very very rarely happens

Exactly. People on here have suggested we ‘get rid’. File under the White / Phillips haters and those who wrote off D Phillips last season … not sure how to describe them really, as I do try to be polite at all times

I'm still not 100% sold on Phillips. He has some big plus points but some pretty big minus ones as well.

Not sure this kind of assessment even takes into account Pidge's leadership and organisation on the pitch, let alone off it. What a player he has been and remains for us
Couldn't have wished for a better pairing at CB than Pidge and Charlie Goode. Nothing but best wishes for Charlie wherever he ends up

I'm far from a football anorak, but had heard of Charlie before he joined us. I remember he was interviewed on Football Focus regarding his rise from non-league to the Prem.
Delighted he lived up to the hype despite the injury in his first season and here's hoping he'll accept a new deal (a long shot i know)
