Two absolutely golden chances squandered (Goode and Phillips). This could have been entirely different. 2-2 with 12 mins to go and you'd fancy a 3rd.

At least the second half has been a lot more respectable. Albeit Stockport have made changes, eased off and happy to sit back.
Just key moments, starting with the fuck up at home right at the end. That ultimately changed the complexion of the tie. Then sloppiness and another mistake OG in the first half tonight.
Small things leading to big differences. Disappointing, sad to go out with a whimper after such a good season.

This is the only game I've watched this season, and there are some real highs and real lows.
Both Phillipses look capable of being amazing and dogshit.
LJW looks light years better than Pattenden.
Houghton is toilet.
Goode looks quality. What an upgrade over Sweeney.
Kemp looks great.
If the team that was on from 60 mins had started, this would have been a totally different game. The midfield was dreadful first half and it was costly.

But that midfield started the last game & we were crying out for them to be replaced as they weren’t winning anything! Players have good games & bad games. I think Houghton is a great player but he’s hardly played over the last few months.

Instead we scored 0 goals over 2 legs despite having numerous good chances. We really need to work on the final third as we look so uncomfortable in front of goal.
We have a good spine to the team hopefully we can focus on improving our attacking play.
All in all fantastic season with some clear areas of improvement.

It's about being able to keep the ball under pressure. That first twenty minutes they were always going to come at us. We needed a spell on the ball to take the sting out the game. It kept coming straight back, even on corners once again we had everyone in the box so they get two or three bites of the cherry.
Some of the songs our fans were singing tonight pissed me off as well.

Credit to the fans today, kept singing and were (largely) positive despite the grim outcome on the pitch. Stayed calm when their silly youngsters were goading us at the end. Well done folk
Also, much credit to our players for showing us appreciation at the end, despite the mob baying a yard behind them. Props

Take M. Phillips, D. Phillips, Houghton, and Pattenden off. Bring Phoenix, Thompson, White, and LJW on.
4-4-2, push Roberts up top with Reid. Kemp right, Phoenix left. All out attack. Fullbacks overlapping inverted wingers.
Might as well lose 5-0 trying to go for it.

No of course not. Stockport are a very good team - I thought they were the best team I saw this season, along with Cardiff.
It’s been an incredible ride this season & I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it. Getting to Wembley would have been amazing but there’s no shame in falling short.
Let’s hope they get plenty of rest after tonight & start planning for next season.

Level above us over two games. Some good players, well coached and organised. If they don't win at Wembley they'll be a big threat for the title next year

Don't think there was a single moment over 180+ minutes where they weren't a level above us. Two points and +10 GD above us but a gulf in quality.
Challinor's been doing this a decade longer than Revs and we have the right man to lead us right now. We need to reflect on not leaving a mark on their goal across two legs home and away despite putting five past them in league competition. No goals in four L1 playoff games represents our greatest achievement and our biggest weakness. Tinpot is a state of mind.

Re: Proud of the season we've had

To be entirely fair our entire season has been built on low scoring wins (isn't it something like 1-0s?) and the second tightest defence in the League. We were one of the stories of League One again and punched so far above our weight. I'd say only Lincoln were the bigger story this year (going on what I've seen and heard all of the podcasts and commentators of the league saying).
I don't know why anyone expected us to go out there and score a ton of goals.
The goal at the end of the first leg was a really hard moment after defending so well throughout the season.
I'm not upset we didn't score a hatful today because where was anyone expecting the goals to come from?
If there's any disappointment it's that we shipped 2 goals in the first half and were effectively buried.
That aside I am proud of the season we've had and proud of our tinpot little club.
I hope we never get too big for our boots and never forget where we came from.

I don't think we put ourselves in a position to create chances until we were 3-0 down in the tie with the way we used the ball. Our football is rarely sparkling but it's usually a bit better than that. I think that's down to a combination of quality (imagine us with a Norwood) and nerves.
Revs tried four different centre mids and they all mostly passed to a centre back and pointed. White uses the ball best so I am surprised he didn't start last night.
Stockport were mentally sharp and we were relying on a mistake which only came for Kemp's first leg chance, and he was probably knackered from the work he'd put in up to that point.
I'm sad today but only because a brilliant season is over. I wanted them to give a better account of themselves on the big stage because they deserved to, but I don't think it would've changed the result in the end. We may not keep all the players but I hope we keep the feeling.

Pretty much echoes my feelings. Great season overall, didn't ever expect is to get promoted but expected us to give a good account of ourselves in the two biggest games.
And we did a Stevenage in the first game, kept it tight and scrappy and didn't take the few good chances we had. (And did something very unlike us to concede).
And in the last nights game we simply didn't turn up and compete until the game was gone. I'm sure our game plan was to keep it alive tight till 60 minutes then go for it.
Sad end.
Enjoy the off season and come back recharged.

Disagree, despite not turning up for large spells of the tie, we created changes in both legs, which on another day we take. If we get a goal back early in the second half tonight they may have started to wobble.
Just wish we would play with the handbrake off a little bit more. I'd have set up more like we did when we played them away in the regular season.
