When is our 50th birthday?

Is there a specific date where we officially became a club?
If it's not been yet I do wonder how close it would be to the playoff final date.
Would be an insane way to see in 50 years win or lose.

To be honest, it's slightly tricky to pin down a specific date - but it definitely hasn't already happened. The best bet is probably 24 September 1976.
Stevenage Athletic's last match was 1 May 1976 but, right up to the start of the 1976-77 season, Stevenage Athletic's chairman was still insisting they would be playing a full Southern League season, even though they had no players. They only pulled out officially in early-to-mid August.
The 'breakaway' group that became the current club was around in June but, as I understand it, 24 September 1976 was the first formal meeting of Stevenage FC and is probably the closest you can get to an 'official' date.

On a more general point about birthdays, which some people overlook, is if it was September 1976 then we are already in our 50th year. September 2026 we will be the beginning of our 51st year.

Love it! Yes, 24 September, there was a meeting at Stevenage Swimming Centre where, if I recall correctly, the committee members were formalised and the club's constitution was agreed.

Are we the youngest club in the Football league?

Off the top of my head, Newport County and Fleetwood are both technically younger but they were refounded after the original club ceased to exist - so depends if you take the date of the original founding or of the refounding (mind you, you could make a similar argument about us with Stevenage Town/Athletic). AFC Wimbledon are obviously younger but there's the whole separate history there too. I might be missing some others ...
