Game no. 46

I did it! For the first time ever I managed to attend every home game this season and, now I’ve finally managed to get a ticket for the home playoff game, I thought I’d look back at the astonishing end of the season.
It was a very nervous performance from the players & the crowd but I have to say what a colossus Piergianni was. He gave a real captain’s performance yet again, driving the team forward, throwing himself into everything. I really don’t know where we’d be without him.
Same goes for Marschall. What a signing he has been! Incredible once again & has to be one of the best in L1.
I thought Pattenden & Earley were very good as well.
Unfortunately I felt the midfield struggled. We seemed to have trouble winning the 2nd ball & I didn’t think White or Thompson were in the game at all. I was relieved to see Dan Phillips come on & he was brilliant from the word go. That run he made down the right with Wigan players bouncing off him was one of the highlights for me.
I have no doubt that the ball crossed the line for the goal but it’s irrelevant now anyway. The linesman said it did & that’s all that matters. Huge credit to Revell for the substitutions - he really went for it & throwing Sweeney up front was the difference.
I haven’t cheered a goal so loudly for many years & I still haven’t fully got my voice back! Apologies to everyone around me who all got a hug. I don’t know any of you but I was so relieved, I couldn’t help myself!
Whatever happens next, it’s been a fabulous season. Revell & the players deserve huge credit.

Good summary - as brilliant as Pattenden and Earley have been, it was useful to have Luther and Butler to come on late on Saturday. I felt both starting full backs were getting a bit ragged and giving the ball away too easily.

Pattenden was dead on his feet before he was subbed.

Has his limitations same as Kane Smith, but 100 percentager .

Rate him as an improvement on Kane Smith. Would still have Wildin as first choice but Pattenden has done really well.
Prefer Earley to Butler or Freestone as LB. More pace and long throw.

Definitely an improvement on Kane Smith, and his availability is good too.
important to have a backup RB who isn't injured all time time, since Luther is always picking up small knocks keeping him out for 3/4 games at a time.

Yeah not winning the second balls in the middle of the pitch was the biggest frustration for me, a lot of the time we looked to be standing there watching one of their players bring it down under no pressure. Easy to say in hindsight but but I think the game would’ve be a lot more comfortable if Dan Phillips had of started, obviously understand that it would’ve been hard to throw him straight back in after his suspension.
But alls well that ends well. Best day I’ve had at Boro since watching us win the conference from the old shed as a kid (I couldn’t get tickets to Newcastle or Grimsby unfortunately)
