Why are we not

Cashing in on our good form and the feelgood factor by offering early-bird ST prices.
I know we don't know what league we'll be in but we could have played the odds on that one 2 weeks ago and given fans a 3-4 week window to buy early and *maybe* save a decent sum if we go up.

Because we /never/ do.
If ever we were going to get STs released early to ride the crest of the wave, even if not at a reduced rate, it was immediately on the back of our L2 promotion, where we even took a few hundred up to Barrow for a match that didn't matter as we had already clinched it, and people would defunitely have purchased without really thinking about it because of the feelgood factor.
By the time they were released in late June/early July, ten or so weeks later and having not had football in the meantime, there will definitely have been a bunch of people didn't buy one when they would have if released immediately. I believe in that instance PW put it down to wanting to see what other clubs in L1 were going to be charging for their STs/matchday prices first. Seemed suspect justification to me and suspect the reality was actually that we simply hadn't thought about it/weren't prepared for it, as a) plenty of clubs announced their prices a month or two before the end of the prior season so he could have seen those and b) surely we don't leave our decision on ST prices and therefore budgeting until that late on!

We never do anything early.
I feel like Phil answered why once, but can't remember exactly. Was it because we like to see what other clubs are charging first?

Yep, see above.
Didn't wash with me. We could not possibly have left our budget planning until that late, deep into signing new players, and the information was already there for many clubs anyway.

That's wholly irrelevant though. No-one is dithering between a Stevenage ST or a Luton one and waiting for prices before committing.
Maybe his research shows people who buy will buy anyway so why reduce the profit or rush it? But a bord in the hand and all that...
And plenty of clubs do it every year, presumably they have a sound rationale too...

I think it is that we don't want to charge massively less/more than other clubs, rather than we are competing with other clubs for STH.
And FWIW on that, whilst our (matchday) prices may seem quite steep, compared to the majority they are actually cheaper than the going rate. It is just that (L1) football is so expensive now to try to fund the inflated wages as a result of PL trickle down, and having clubs like Birmingham and Wrexham in our league last season. But ST remain very decent value for us, and should be an easy decision for anybody who isn't going to miss more than about a quarter to a third of the season. Especially as you can spread the payment out across six months, interest-free.

Yeah, my comment about competing with other clubs was entirely facetious.
And I dont think twenty five quid or whatever a full price adult ticket costs is expensive. Not that everyone has the spare income to concur.
Wasn't aware you could spread the cost interest-free. That's got to cost the club 5-10% of the ticket price because someone always pays.

I'd like to see how our ST sales are spread.
My guess would be 30% the week they go on sale.
Diehard fans and people wanting to ensure they get their usual seat.
The rest spread fairly evenly right up to the week before the season starts, as our squad and ambition becomes clearer.
I just think we could get some of that cash into the bank earlier to earn interest or at least reduce short term borrowing.
We make a loss anyway so dont pay any corporation/business tax presumably, like most clubs.

On your final point yes but depends what you mean by loss .If a trading profit is declared liable to CT even if balance sheet shows an overall loss or accrued losses.PS of course thought most make a trading loss as well.
