One of our best halves of football this season. Fair play to the players for stepping it up massively.
Roberts was my MotM today but obviously Kemp was a huge influence! Reid ran his socks off as well. Piergianni won every single header & Freestone dealt with that horrible awkward no. 9 brilliantly. That’s also one of the best games I’ve seen White play.
An excellent all round second half with nobody playing badly. I’m so pleased we beat them & their horrible time wasting injury faking tactics.
It’s also the first time I’ve ever seen us beat Reading! Happy days!!!

The first time we have beaten them at home and first time in the EFL, with the other two wins both being away in cups.
Down to just seven sides we have played in the EFL (at least twice) and failed to beat. Could be one by the end of next season 👀

I honestly thought he was excellent today and had a pretty good game Tuesday as well. Never would have considered him to be an option at LWB but he did both sides of the job very well.
Still not enough to change my opinion of him on the whole, and the cynic in me is saying he is possibly playing for a new deal (either with us or elsewhere) but have to give credit where it is due.

Me and my compadres all said exactly the same during today's match.
Today is what we all know he /can/ do, but what he /does/ do only a small handful of times a season. Which is why he is so incredibly frustrating.

Wow you're a tough one to please Rob. FWIW I thought Roberts' performance today had everything: work rate, creativity, fantastic crossing, aerial duels, motivating/organising his teammates - as good as I've seen him.

He annoyed me on the ball, as he always does… but he’s not the only one. His work rate, tackling and awareness were better than usual. He played a sublime first time ball in behind for Reid in the second half, but I’m not 100% sure he meant it… the ball was hit first time on the half volley and could’ve been a hit and hope into space.
Impressed with Reid considering he has a massive game next week. I still thought we were a bit laboured. Reading were unutterable shyte. Shockingly bad. But had everyone behind the ball and needed breaking down. The one time M Phillips showed and dropped in deep with back to goal, he dropped the shoulder and did 2 of them and played a lovely pass inside the full back. Class. That’s why I was pleased to see Kemp come on, as we needed our proper players on the park to make sure we unlocked them.
Can we get 6 points at Easter? Bradford, Bolton then Lincoln after that…. Tough

I don't think it's as simple as just playing him from the start every week. I would definitely like to see him used more effectively when we expect to have more of the ball, but in games like today where it was tight for 70-80 mins and we're not playing through the lines then he is a very good impact sub to aid in creating or finishing chances

That was terrible. Ref shouldn’t have stopped the game as he was off the pitch. He then deliberately rolled onto the pitch so the referee told him to go back off but he refused. Why didn’t he book him?
This is such a boring game - so many Reading players feigning injury

To restrict Reading - probably the second best team in the league for the last 20 games , to no chances whilst remaining a threat ourselves is a fantastic performance. Completely deserved, great from all the team , selections and subs perfect .

Re: Match thread

Massively deserved win. Second half superb. Reading barely made it over the halfway line the entire second half. We had them under near constant bombardment and created so many chances - Reid’s offside was even a thumping left footer, but D&M P both had great chances - good to see Dan shooting from distance but how did M miss his sitter?? Never mind. We did the business and Reading fans on faecesbook agree they were hopeless. Great work from Roberts today, and special thanks to Louis T who bossed that right wing time and time again, every attack, without fail. I was sorry to see him go off at the time, but clearly it turned out to be the right move. So, so well deserved. Excellent work Boro.

More good signs of the developing partnership between Reid and Phillips today, I thought. Agree that keeping them fit is key. It's no coincidence at all that our form has improved since Phillips arrived: such a clever footballer. His ability to retain possession under pressure is next level stuff!
