I’ve seen better games of football bits all about grinding out results at this stage of the season. Just look at how all the other teams around us did today!
Up to 5th now! Remember Wimbledon somehow won 4-0 last week!
Next week’s game has become particularly important now!
Impossible to pick out a MotM today as literally nobody stood out although I thought Phoenix did a good job. Houghton shored up the middle as well & I thought Goode did well, particularly as a winger!

Horrible, horrible second half, but 3 points taken and great results elsewhere.

In terms of quality the whole game was dire, I was expecting a lot more from Wimbledon based on their recent form but they seemed to complete even fewer passes than we did. Still, solid from us, Phoenix did well at LWB and three points in the bag - particularly important with two very tricky games coming up

Agrred, their passing was luckily as bad as ours. They didn't look like a side that scored 4 last time out.

As I have said a number of times this season, it is not coincidence that sides come to us on hot form and having scored for fun, yet struggle to score or get anything from us.
It is because of the way we play them, not because 90% of sides happen to have an off-day when they come to us.
Yet another thing that the team, and manager, really don't get enough credit for.

Also Chuds - have you got Jamie’s penalty stats . From massive pressure at Villa Park in front of their fans in the 90th minute and before then up to the last two . Jamie is a great penalty taker .

I /think/ he has scored 14 out of 16 (scored seven and missed one in both league and cup), only missing in the 1-0 home defeat to Burton last season and the penalty shootout at home to Watford in the League Cup in 2023.

Agreed. We get so excited when we're the final 3rd of the pitch we end up making the wrong choice.
But, another win. Let's shit house our way to the Championship being big, strong and physical

In case it isn't the reason for your post, or others didn't see it, four kids genuinely invaded the pitch at FT today and ran for a selfie with...Filip Marschall!
Then tried to run out of the ground with the matchball, before being intercepted and dragged away to the control room.

Yep. Katie called me at FT with her match thoughts and thought it was farcical that no stewards intervened.
Appreciate it's harmless over-exuberant kids but it could still get us a fine.

Stewards did intervene when they could get there! One chased the kid with the match ball & caught him as he tried to hurdle the barrier.
A couple of stewards were on the pitch very quickly. However, as an ex-steward, I can reveal that they are not meant to chase after invaders because it encourages them to run & gets the crowd cheering them on. The idea is to slowly approach them/surround them or wait for them to leave the pitch.

Yes, also stewards nearby leaving their position also equals more people trying to get on. You usually have specific hit squads to deal with invaders, with the relevant qualifications.

As I said, I was a steward for many years. You can’t just turn up & do the job. You have to pass certain levels of crowd safety & you are assessed by an observer without you knowing they are there.
Some people do actually fail the assessments & are not allowed to be a steward. Supporters don’t always realise that stewards have very strict instructions & will get into huge trouble if they don’t follow them. You may think they’re not doing something correctly but there may be a reason for that.
Please don’t criticise the stewards. It’s a very poorly paid role & you’re on your feet for a LONG time with very few nice compliments or support

It was in jest.
I worked for around 9 months with various bodies including the SIA to redraft the UK 'Green Guide' to Safety at Sporting Events (and the Purple guide for festivals and mass gatherings) and to draft the early standards and assessment criteria for event safety staff and Safety Advisory Groups as well as risk specific parts of the crowd safety and blue light response plans for London 2012 and a couple of festivals.
It's a thankless task wearing an orange jacket most of the time. But they usually get a free Bovril.

No he isn't!
He is being forced into a lot of defensive work because they are attacking down that side (or were until the final 15 or so of the half since when most of the play has been in their half) but he is definitely the left side of a midfield three.

Yeah, we still look a bit suspect at the back from counter attacks and, strangely, set-pieces, but looked comfortable the second half of the half.
Need to kick on and get another now to hopefully make for a more comfortable end to the match.

People can moan about us being defensive- I have very rarely - but once again we have stopped a team in excellent form ( 5 wins, 2 draws , 1 loss ) and stopped them making any clear chances .
A fantastic tactical performance full of effort, hard work.
I loved today’s performance.

Hard work is mentioned so, so often in interviews with our current manager and the previous one.
This performance wasn't pretty but it was absolutely the pinnacle of hard work.
Every single player gave everything.
Well done Boro!

The harder you work the luckier you get is rhe book title and quote.
Sounds like something Westley would paint on a wall.
It was him I think him that put "Hard work starts here" on the footpath from the car park to the training ground building.

Not sure why we've waited until 75mins in this half when it's clearly not working.
Mind you when your attacking options are Lubala and Roberts it's not that surprising.
Playing Sat, Tues, Sat Tues would be nice to freshen things up a bit!
