Thereâs a hell of a lot of anger on here tonight!
Ok, we lost & played poorly but we canât win every game! To be fair to Orient, they played well & Ballard was superb.
We make far too many individual mistakes in defence. Piergianni was particularly poor today. How much time did their player have to cross for the winning goal? We seem very slow to close down.
Unfortunately Luther is struggling this season imo. I donât think he was particularly bad tonight but he looks slow & gives the ball away a lot.
We are extremely reliant on Earley which is a big problem seeing as he canât seem to last 90 minutes!
Matt Phillips still looks class & takes the ball down so well but thereâs a limit to what he can do without support.
At least they have a great chance to put things right on Saturday!

I'm not sure if i agree regarding Luther. Luther is as solid as ever this season. We give the ball away a lot as a team but pride ourselves on winning it back and playing a high intensity game. 90% of the time is the defence firing the ball into Reid and Matt Phillips. If it doesn't stick, we go again.

It's aimed towards Pidge or Goode, with the opposition defenders running towards their own goal.
Once Pidge wins the header, Reid and Roberts are onside as it's a different phase of play

Sounds great in theory but have we ever made it work? Would like to see some variety in set pieces, the long throw-ins are starting to get on my nerves as well especially when a team is comfortable dealing with them like last night (or they just don't reach their target!)

I don't think we use the long throw tactic for the sake of it. The fact Goode and Earley are somewhat capable of occasionally launching it into the box is reason enough to use it but not EVERY time. If we had nobody capable, I don't imagine we would persist with it. It's a nice weapon to have available and was always a novelty when you saw one, but now it's become trendy amongst teams at the top level we aren't going to see the end of it any time soon

They need to go in flatter and harder, that's why they do nothing. Might as well drop it short and get someone swing a cross in arcing away from goal. That's far harder to deal with.

Fucking disgusting performance. Every single player should be ashamed of themselves tonight.
You can see why Roberts never starts games anymore. Fuck him off in the summer.
One of Pidge's worst ever performances for us and he got MOTM.
Got two LBs who cannot play more than ten matches in a row.

Pidge getting MotM genuinely made me laugh, Ballard ran rings round him and Goode.
Dreadful all round, and not Revs' fault as there were too many bad individual performances, but why pick two centre backs on as subs and not one of Phoenix or Campbell? One of them could have offered something different off the bench. I doubt they would have made the difference as we were just shit, but once they went two down and with Earley off we basically had nothing on the left side of the pitch

Pidge has been a great servant to our club and deserves to be a part of everything we do. Here's the but...from what I've seen we have played as good or better without him in the starting line up. Our game is so predictable when he plays...its the same old, same old on set pieces...lump it in to Pidge, to try and head a goal, every time. We are so, so predictable when he plays and he creates very little. To end on a positive, very little gets past him in the air when he defends. As mentioned before I can't comment on how he played last night as I couldn't make the game.

Re: Team News
Views: 366
The set pieces are a separate issue - there are so many occasions when everyone is in the box and a short pass down the wing, or trying anything different, would create a lot more space than trying the same thing every time.
Not sure how many we've got directly from set pieces this season, but I think it could be a lot more by mixing it up occasionally. I can see why we do it because Pidge is superb in the air, but he's usually double or triple marked now because everyone knows where it's going.

Re: Team News
Views: 656
As I keep saying it all stems from our cbs inability on the ball. Ideally if none of them can pass you'd have a midfielder coming back between two of them in some kind of quarterback role to try and find the players, but not sure we even have someone that I'd trust to do that. Not sure White is the answer as the game seems to pass him by most of the time. When Saxon went off we completely lost our outlet up the left side and then also lost Pattenden up the right when he was moved across.
The complete lack of moment off the ball from 75% of the team is also a major problem. So many times tonight there was literally fuck all on. I know it's a tight pitch but even so, Ballard managed to find the space.
The thing that really really fucks me off is how many attacking throw ins we waste with this Goode bollocks. It must be 500 for the season and how many have worked? Possibly one? It's a fucking joke, at least mix it up a bit and have someone go short for a cross once in a while.

Agree re movement. It is puzzling that the players must be being coached not to play between the lines, look for that smaller % pass or whatever. Itâs beyond conservative and costs us in games like last night. Kemp giving or receiving in those situations is at his most dangerous.

Second para particularly correct there. I saw Goode a couple of times playing out from the back, look up and give that arm gesture that says âwho the hell am I supposed to send this to?!â IIRC he turned back and played it backwards when most of the team were well ahead of him, so he obviously felt nothing was on even when from the stands it looked like a long ball forward was obvious.

The lack of movement really winds me up too, especially when the ball is out wide - it must be intentional and designed not to ruin the shape, but there's a reason so many attacks end up back with the CBs or Marschall

And our set-piece deliveries today were actually very decent, consistently putting the ball into really dangerous areas, yet nobody attacked them! So poor.

Re: Team News

...and that is exactly why you need to try and have some period of possession within the game. It must be blooding knackering chasing the opposition movement for 80 odd mins. When we do finally get on the ball, it's hard surprisingly everyone is looking at a teammate to make that run, knowing it will ultimately just be lumped forwards anyway!
