Itâs hard to explain, I donât think Revs deserves sacking but I really would like a new manager.
Itâs been 3 years of the same thing now, hit & hope football, then try and put pressure on the opposition back line to force a mistake and pounce.
How many goals have we scored through good, intricate play? Not many at all. Itâs a very dull watch, and when we go through bad phases like we are now itâs borderline unwatchable.

It is dull when weâre out of form but heâs massively overachieving with us. It would be brutal to sack him.
And Wallace would probably hire a fucking idiot like that Exeter twat or Gary Smith.

First time Marschall has conceded 3+ in a game for us.
Which coincides with it also being the 850th goal we have conceded in the FL.
So that's nice.

That was my thought also. Absolutely no reason for him to come out like that.
Pidge at fault for the first, but also feel Freestone could have done better and got to it before McGoldrick, but he looked flatfooted so was too slow to react.
Their second was the fault of numerous players.

Sweeney, Pidge and Freestone all at blame for that. Shame as the formation changed actually looked to have helped us as we were getting torn apart before Pattenden had to go off, but Freestone should never be right back.

We have been ruined by injuries this season (Butler, Earley, Luther and now Pattenden) preventing us playing a back three, but you have to say that moving Freestone to RB is madness.
I am fine with moving to a back four, considering the lack of WBs we now have owing to those injuries, but would be far happier with Campbell or Louis T or someone at RB than Freestone!

Won playing a 5-3-2 Tuesday. Planned to play a 5-3-2 today . Swap Chem for Pattenden and we play the same system with a little bit more of attacking threat . Instead we go back to 4-5-1 , putting Freestone in an unfamiliar position. Thought we should have definitely found a way to keep the same system after it produced our best performance in weeks on Tuesday.

The move to 3/5 at the back last week also ended the months long spell of us looking dogshit too, so that plus the fact Phoenix can play there which as you said, would give us more attacking threat, made the switch to 4 at the back even more mental.
Anyone watching that could see after the first goal we were all over the place but it took Revell and Cuthbert about 30 mins to revert back, at which point we were out of the game.
I'd love to know how the players went from Tuesday when they were all 100% motivated and wanted to win every tackle, to today where they looked like they'd rather be anywhere else. We really should be doing better than today with the players we have at our disposal.

I think you can very rarely question the effort of the players. I feel that there is something underlying which is to blame for the sub par performances and complete inconsistency from one game to the next.
Of course, once they cross the white line, it is ultimately down to the players. However, I've always felt there is something lacking under Revs. You can see the frustration in some of the lads, imagine how Reid and Phoenix feel for example being so hopelessly isolated in attacking situations.
The tactics are naive. Changes are too slow and reactive/predictable. The decision today to revert to a 4 was made out of fear.
People were discussing how many points they were hoping for from the 3 home games to allay concerns, but it has always been about performances for me. Tuesday was incredible. Whether we had won, lost or draw I was much happier with what I was watching (albeit we seem to have the blueprint of how to play against Peterborough). I won't get into the entertainment vs results argument but even when we were winning it wasn't always pretty and I often felt like we were relying on a piece of individual brilliance or a goal from a set piece (which we haven't been particularly threatening from lately)

Agreed. It may have been 100% of their effort but it translated to about 50% of the effort of Barnsley so looked like they weren't even trying.
That's the worse collective performance I've seen under Revell. Not one player was good in the first half.

Re: Match Thread
Views: 280
I think that's harsh. Barnsley were a better side and I can accept being beaten by teams with quality players throughout. We were chasing shadows for much of that first half because we were trying to win the ball high up the pitch like we did on Tuesday but Peterborough weren't capable of playing through us like Barnsley did.
We looked so open with the change of shape and didn't address the issues such as losing the midfield battle and allowing McGoldrick/Keillor Dunn to run in behind.
Mistakes ultimately led to the 3 goals we conceded but they just found it so easy to play around us. And our hopeless long balls forward gave them very little to think about. To me, that's how they are being instructed to play. The shackles are well and truly on. I would like to see us be braver with our passing through midfield and creating space for the wide players. The forward line looks so isolated when we lump the ball forward and haven't got the opportunity to get the midfield/FBs up in support.
System/formation isn't everything and 5 at the back might not work every week but it does seem to suit the players we have in the squad. However, we are somewhat limited now with our 2 RBs unavailable. I would have given Phoenix a chance at RWB before changing shape yesterday. Perhaps with Houghton back the defence will have better protection and results wise I'm not too concerned with another 3 home games in a week on the horizon but it's going to be a lot of grinding out results for the rest of the season IMO
