Revell signed 8 years ago today - Where does he rank?
On 30 January 2018 Revell signed for us as a player. He notched up 13 goals in 54 appearances and went on to manage us in the 2020-21 season, and now since 2024.
We've had better managers, we've had better players, but honestly I think him being a player then a manager for us is something that elevates him in the club's history.
Where does he sit for everyone in terms of great or notable figures in our club history?
The only other player who later became a manager with us that I can think of is Dino.
On the pitch I'd argue he'll be remembered more than Revell but off of it there's no contest with Alex.

I really like him as an individual. Undeniably a good signing as a player and has contributed much in his coaching and managerial roles too. I hope he turns out to be one of our "great" managers. Time will tell!

Revs genuinely cares about the club and seems aware of his limitations. It says a lot about him that he resigned as manager and joined the academy coaching setup when Tisdale came in.
To be a club legend probably requires a big footballing achievement under his management to happen such as a promotion or EFL Trophy win.

Call me cynical but he’s paid to care. No different to any other manager. I remember when Darren Sarll used to say how much he cared about the club and fans brought into tbat nonsense too. People never saw him again once he was sacked.
He cares because his job. Same as most the players. It’s their job.
But to answer the question he doesn’t rank anywhere near the GOAT Graham Westley.

Revell, like almost every manager is a competitive individual, you don't get to have been an elite level footballer, or to be a manager unless you are ultra focused and competitive.
So he cares. But he'd care the same if he managed bloody Woking, his focus and drive is all about winning.
The way he conducts himself is about his wider character and personalnstandards, I'd argue he would apply exactly the same traits in any job.
Every job gets 100% from him, we aren't special.

Not denying (some of) that.
But also claiming we are just another club to him is bullshit. He has genuine affection to us as a club, in large part of course because of the length of time he has been with us (see somebody like Ferguson as an example) in various capacities. He isn't like us as fans, and wouldn't be buying a ST if sacked, I am not a fool, but to claim his attitude to us is the same as any other manager we could have, or have had, is, quite frankly, bollocks.

His actions ever since he’s been involved here (as a player, coach and manager) have shown he cares. Of course he draws a wage but I think the way he handled himself during and after his first managerial spell speak volumes. A bloke with a lot of integrity.
On the player front nowhere near legendary status for us (Ben Kennedy anyone?). Did the job we signed him for.
As a manger he’s not either. But he could and hopefully will be one day. As it stands GW and Cloughie are top tier with Evans and Stimmo on the next rung down.

Revs will have managed more matches for us in L1 than any other manager after today - he is currently tied with GW, but with a much better record.
"But Revs has had a better squad to work with". Strange that that doesn't stop people criticising Revs for his first spell in charge of us, despite him having a seriously dogshit squad to work with.
Edit: This isn't me suggesting he should be considered a legendary manager for us, by the way. That requires length of tenure and/or silverware (granted it is harder for us than ever before to achieve the latter now, playing at our highest level and against clubs considerably bigger and wealthier than us).

Easy to laugh but at least he clearly cares for our club unlike some others we have had

What makes you think he cares when others didn’t? Is it cause he does fist pumps after we win.
He clearly cared the other week when we got battered 3-0 by Exeter and didn’t even thank the fans for coming.

I love how much every manager not applauding the fans at an away game gets to you, and stays with you for eternity. You've been at it for years.

He just clapped the fans before the match for a good 20 seconds.
