Return of the lesser-spotted Saxon. Looks like three at the back, and Harry C starts.

Just got home! Really enjoyed the game tonight, so refreshing. The only negative for me was the huge amount of offsides. The East stand were moaning at the linesman but he got every one correct as far as I could see.
I like Cornick - he won loads of flicked on headers & worked his socks off. He’s still lacking sharpness but a promising start.
Roberts was excellent. He often gets slated but I thought that was his best game for a long time.
Nobody played badly but I have to say I’m not a fan of White. Apart from dead balls I just don’t see what he offers. Almost every pass he makes is backwards & he’s too lightweight.
Pattenden was very good & Sweeney was MotM for me.
Marschall has to be one of the best keepers in L1.

That was enjoyable. 18+ shots to their 5.
Chance creation far better.
Amazing what happens when you push forward.
Pattenden and Earley got up well in support.
Solid at the back. Really pleased for Sweeney, been in and out a lot but error free and a goal to boot.
Deserved that. Let's build on it.

Much better all round. Could have had another 2 or 3 but we created chances from open play which is a positive.

I think Sweeney has been excellent for the last couple of games, his passing is much more controlled

Re: Line-up

He has a mistake in him because he's confident enough to take a touch under a bit of pressure and try passes that Charlie and Carl simply whack away first touch.
And CB errors are often magnified.
He also carries the ball out of defence, leaving a hole behind him. Not a bad thing as long as someone shuffles across, but again if he loses possession, it's often magnified.

I have to say he's proven his value to the side. He was brilliant tonight, as was Pattenden.

Fully agree, Sweeney and Pattenden played their socks off. A mention for all the others too, they were brilliant tonight. They gave everything. We look a more attack minded team with Kemp in the side so keep him fit. Also, well done to all our fans that attended, they were outstanding. Boro are back!!!

Kemp is the player who I think could make the step up to the Championship. I'd be amazed if a club doesn't come in with a decent offer in the summer.

Helps when you play a back 4 full of right backs and a kid on league debut.
Good game from Sweeney. MOM even before the goal.

Their defence to blame for the fact Marschall only had one save to make? (And nearly fucked it up) ;)

I like this set up. It plays to the strengths of the players on the pitch. A nice solid bank of three behind White and Phillips means they can play a little higher which suits them. Kemp in a free role. The wing backs can bomb on. Roberts is playing as a striker and that suits him more than being on the wing I’d say these days. It’s also good just to have two up top.
It’s more reminiscent of the football that had us towards the top of the table at the start of the season.

I don't understand why we can't score more goals.
Literally 3 opportunities 2 yards out just before half time and somehow doesn't manage to go in. There must be a higher power at work. Those types of chances always go in against us.
Another positive performance where we look the better side but seemingly something is stopping us from scoring.

A lot more enjoyable watch than the last couple of months or so. Keep doing what we’re doing and some will go in. There’s an added intent to our play again.
Even if we lose tonight I’d rather see us doing this going forward. We’ll win more than we lose in the long run if we do so.

Pattenden has a good cross on him. Was worried he might be a bit of a fish out of water attacking, but he's looked good in Luther's absence.
Cornick is holding the ball up well, always showing for it and actually managing to carry on attacks.
Good stuff, looking forward to Dan Phillips smashing more shit up second half

Didn't he just! His run, control (from the long diagonal ball from Marschall), and cut back to the edge of the area shortly afterwards was also sublime.
He has been outstanding the past three games. Dan Phillips has really stepped it up too.
Sweeney was also immense today.

That is Phillips best position. He's not going to give you much on the ball, but let him charge about midfield with someone in front and behind him and he's a right handful.

I know it's trendy to bash Revs, but there's no chance he kept Kemp on the bench for tactical reasons.
Little differences, but Marschall's kicking is top tier.

Our seventh GK to reach ten clean sheets in the FL.
Third-fastest to reach it, in 26 matches, behind Murphy Cooper (17) and Taye Ashby-Hammond (22). One faster than Jamie Cumming on 27.

Saves per shot on target ratio?
Really hard to get decent stats on a keeper to draw a comparison but early on he was conceding more than he saved no?
Happy with him now though, quality.

Re: Line-up

lessons learnt from tonight, what alot of people have been saying and that 5-3-2 is our best formation
we had 3 solid defenders in a back three
5 in midfield, including Early and Patterden going up the line to feed the forwards, and three midfielders who were on the run all game and offered a support to the front two
up front was impressed with Connick and Roberts, I think that is Roberts best role, more central rather than out wide
Overall a good good game, good result and three points

Agree about Roberts, it's baffled me why we've not tried him more centrally when we struggle so badly to hold the ball up, and he's easily our strongest player in the air at that end of the pitch. I do wonder where Phoenix and Chem fit into this system, but I guess they are directly competing with Kemp and Roberts, which can't be a bad thing.
