Picked these two quotes out from the gaffers' post match pressers*
Clough "They barely had a shot against us"
Revs " I think we limited them to five shots in the whole game too and we’ve had 15, 16.”
No wonder people.dont trust the media....

Our goal?

Why were the Mansfield players protesting to the Ref about our goal? enough to get one of them sent off.

Re: Our goal?
Don't think he was actually sent off (despite the ref showing a red card) as nowhere is reporting it, and I didn't see him leave the pitch.
No doubt another fuck up by the ref, who was absolutely abysmal all match long. Hilarious that Mansfield fans are claiming he favoured us and cost them the match after he gave them EVERY decision throughout.
Fuck knows what they are even moaning about. We had possession, Sweeney feigned a head injury to stop our attack, so the ref stopped play, Sweeney then pretended it was his shoulder when the ref went over to him, but was told to leave the pitch and the game resumed with us in possession. Just about the only thing he got right all match.

They aren't showing it now though.
The ref undeniably showed a red card as everybody in the ground saw it, but come to think of it I am not sure I remember the guy he showed it to leaving the fiel,d and nowhere is now reporting it, so he must have immediately reversed it in that case.

Do you have to 'leave the field' if the match is finished and everyone is leaving it anyway?
Any requirement to leave the field is surely to.allow play to continue during the game?

Kick-off was taken before he blew for FT.
Edit: Mansfield's match report states "Midfielder Louis Reed was shown a second yellow card in the moments that followed the goal for dissent". But nowhere else has it. Will have to keep an eye out on their next match.

I wasn't there but was told about it this morning. Apparently their player feigning injury didn't have the physio come on, therefore he shouldn't have been made to leave the pitch. Only have to leave if you get on field treatment

Re: Our goal?

I believe it doesn't matter about the physio coming on or not when it's a suspected head injury, they have to leave the pitch and receive a pitch side assessment from the doctor that they are able to carry on.
Charlie Goode had to do it against Bolton when he got a knee in the back but the ref thought it was a head injury. He stood with the physio and doctor bewildered indicating it was a knee in the back that hurt him!
So since the game was stopped for a head injury the ref has to follow protocol regardless of what the player was actually faking.

Oh yes I remember that. Mansfield Sweeney threw himself to the floor clutching his head in an attempt to get our player sent off. Ref then orders him off the pitch for treatment.

Agreed, and it just showed that when we take the handbrake off and move the ball quickly, we are a dangerous side. That was Reid's best game in weeks which made taking him and Roberts off, who was linking with Reid and Kemp nicely, even more unusual.
Most surprising of all, Bez offered a threat in the second half too. I just hope we have some confidence in stepping higher up the pitch and trying to control games more, because when we do we actually look decent (and it's much, much more entertaining)

Second half was SO much better. It would have been a travesty if we had lost that. Reid look much better because he came deeper and had the ball played in to feet, with others within hailing distance for once. Kemp was the gamechanger.

But there was enough contact. It was a soft penalty but the right decision from my position on halfway.

It was Jamie Reid so almost definitely.
When he isn't flinging himself to the floor trying to win a free-kick like Anthony fucking Grant, rather than holding it up, he is standing offside.
Edit: Having watched the replay in the bar at HT, it was given against Pidge from the original delivery. Point still stands though.

In the second half Reid actually linked up play effectively. I haven’t been to every game, but it seemed to me like the first time in months I’ve seen him willing to receive a ball back to goal and turn / or link up. Coupled with Sweeney, White and even Pidge distributing well we looked decent.
Why has it taken us so long to play that system properly?

My random thoughts
Views: 829
Interesting again that for the second game on the trot, both sets of fans were singing about how they’d seen better displays of reffing in their time. And were Mansfield fans, who between 70 minutes and 90+7 clearly thought they were going home with the points, really booing their team at the end? Do they really expect to just turn up and win? The fact that they didn’t after five straight wins probably proves how well we did in keeping them quiet. They never really looked like scoring from open play, and the penalty was a travesty in terms of how well we’d been pushing them up to that point.
I always like Phillips and thought he was good again today, especially having to play on a knife-edge with his early yellow, but still did his job with courage. Sweeney did well and that slick little run forward gave us a lift and showed it is worth pushing forward and trying to create something, seemingly a rarity for Boro at the moment. Lubala isn’t a nightmare - he’s doing a reasonable ‘physical’ job in his role - but I don’t really know what he’s offering and much prefer Campbell.
I admit I thought we’d lost that and was overjoyed, like a win, when we scored. But I’d much rather our first halfs were as dominant and intentful as that second half. Leaving the goal til 90+7 isn’t a policy I recommend.
You just knew Akins would be their scorer. I think someone said so on here (Sev?). Peterborough now right behind us so we’ve got to get that attacking intent going for Tuesday, but I’m resigned to the belief that it’ll be more of the same.

Hopefully we'll begin to see Kemp and Chem starting games again. Phoenix too! Take the game to the opposition from the off.
Louis Thompson is one of the best players i've seen in a Boro shirt, but he's been well off it the past two games and we really don't need White, Thompson and Phillips in the same team.

Fair assessment.
Their fans cheered their players, the booing was towards the officials.
Louis T was rather anonymous I thought. Harvey gave the ball away a little too often again for my liking.
Agree on Dan P. A starter for me purely for his ground covering and destructive play. If he could do something with the ball after nicking it he'd be playing a league higher.
