39 minutes. Abysmal so far. Get Malcolm off for Chem, Dan Phillips off for Kemp (who is noticeably missing from the big hole at the top of midfield) and absolutely anybody else up front. No difference in quality between the teams but at least Argyle are trying to get it forward.

We've now the same record after 22 fixtures this season as we had under Gary Smith in 2012-13 – W10 D7 L5.
The differences are Smiffy's side had scored and conceded more... and were one place higher. And we had played 22 times by mid-December in 2012, which means the dynamic is slightly different.
But both seasons saw us start so well, before falling away. Hopefully Revs can put his finger on it this time around and get us motoring again.

A terrible game of football
Views: 1163
I honestly thought for the 10 minutes of the second half we were finally going to dominate the match. Then we just collapsed. And after we gifted them an equaliser the game turned into an under 10s hoof about. Zero skill on show from both teams. An absolute embarrassment to witness.
I dread Bellend beating us at the weekend.
And to top it all I decided to have a hot chocolate to warm up. Slightly chocolate flavoured water for 3 effing quid.

Thought a five year deal for Revs at the time was a bit much. Imagine we end up paying off four remaining years of a contract or something if things go downhill. I expect there are some clauses involved with that, but it still feels like a huge millstone around the neck of a club with our limited financial resources.

We won't get dragged into a relegation battle. We might end up nearer the bottom than the top and could even finish one place above them, but we won't be in a battle.
I still think we will finish top half personally. Just need a bit of confidence back.

No chance at all with our defence. We actually hardly lose albeit we ain’t winning much lately. We need about 15 points in 24 games to avoid relegation- just no chance.

Maybe close points wise (although 10 points is a lot for clubs at the bottom) but even if it was close we have plenty of spaces between us and relegation. It's not possible for all of the 17 teams below us to win each week, they all take points off each other, like the top teams have been too.
It's just a very inconsistent and tight league, but we have 37 points and haven't even played half our games yet. We only need about 17 more to be safe, if you are worried about that.
17 out of 72 available would have to be the worst team we've ever had not to get that, and this is one of the best teams we've had.
We will need to replace any players we lose this January though.

There is so much that worries me after today, but this is the thing which worries me the most...
When Plymouth scored, they didn't 'shut up shop' and play for the draw. There was not time wasting. For a team in the relegation zone, you'd expect them to be happy and settle for a point.
Instead they pressed, pushed and went for it.
No longer is there a 'Fortress Lamex' when a team in 20th genuinely believes they can get the 3 points.
Just not good enough all round.

I think the fact we haven't been winning at home creates a perception of a bigger problem than there is. As a lot of fans only go to home games if you're not playing well at home that is the lasting impression on majority of fans. That creates unrest and concern.
In reality, we've gone off the boil a bit but nothing to panic about.
A win on Sunday (at home!) would of huge benefit to everyone.

Indeed it would. And despite the gloom - including my own - it should be remembered that had we held on to the win today we’d be in 4th. One might speculate that had the ball not hit Kemp from that free kick, we’d be 4th, so maybe not as bad as we fear. The issue is whether this is a slight hiccough in the road or if we are about to commence a genuine slide down the table.

I'm not worried about relegation, more that the form and style of play has dropped off a cliff compared to the first 2 months of the season. Since Bradford at home our performances, bar Stockport, have been dire at best. There's no 'zip' to our game, no creativity, and a lack of basic passing. Too often we resort to hoof ball. Reid is isolated most of the game, especially if Kemp isn't playing. We sit too deep at home and fail to dictate the game. And at the risk of sounding like a broken record, playing Reid up top on his own does not play to his strength. He will never be a 'hold up' striker, which when playing 4-2-3-1 you really need. He is best suited to play off another striker. Continually playing against 2 defensive giants, and pumping long balls to him is a complete waste of time. And because we play so deep, we don't get forward in numbers, or quickly enough. The times I count 4 or 5 opposition players in our box, yet when we attack its 2 or 3. This may go some way to explain why we are defensively sound, but Rev's needs to find a happy medium between defence and attack. At the moment its too heavily sided towards defence. In the warm up you see the guys practicing one touch football mini games. yet we barely see any of it during the match. It's slow, cumbersome, and generally ends in a long hoof because the player with the ball has a lack of options.

My 'other' adopted northern team, score a lot of goals, but concede a lot as well. Although they aren't doing so well in their respective table, I can tell you easily which team I look forward to watching more. It's way more exciting and enjoyable to watch.
Revball is just such an awful spectacle for 75% of games, when you aren't getting results it's a tough watch. Feel like the only game we've turned up and had a go from the start recently was Stockport and look what happened!

Gone off the boil a bit of an understatement. Apart from being solid at the back there is nothing else positive to say. Completely disjointed. Lacking creativity. But this has been happening for 2 months now with no sign of change. We can't just keep repeating this formula in the hope things change. But God forbid we should criticise Revs. The last few displays have been exactly like last season. Can we please stop playing Reid on his own, or put a big centre forward up top that can hold the ball up like other teams do in league one. Preferably I'd like 2 up top and Revs actually try to win some games, rather than trying not to lose. Because it's shit to watch.

I think we need to dip into the transfer market or get a loan in for a striker. I think Revs wants to play two up top with Ahadme, but he's injured
FWIW - I think it's fine to criticise individual match performances/trends. It's people who come on and wet their pants and want Revs out, when we have made a good start that seem a bit silly and invite scorn

I agree about the criticism when it's justified, as it is at the moment. A big part for me is we've seen what this team can do earlier in the season and vs Stockport when we attack and go for it more, which makes it extra frustrating when we don't or seem too defensively minded...
Sure I'm not alone in really wanting Revs to be a success here, not just because he's a good guy but because it's nice to have a manager with a genuine connection to the club and who isn't looking for the door the moment another club comes knocking.

We need to come out on fire in the first half from minute one.
Seems to me we continually come out sloppy and let the oppo take control.
Do they warm up sufficiently including mentally?? In fact do they do any mental stuff??
My son is a decent golfer so he plays the first few holes in the nets immediate before a comp. That seems to work for him.
Visualising how the comp is going to go is more tricky.
We must not forget that our biggest weapon is our brain as that controls it all.

Both managers will firstly not want to lose.
Both will then determine how they might win and how much they are prepared to risk to win.
If Both managers are broadly equal in terms of ability, it comes down to player quality, fitness, aggression, physicality, decision-making and errors.
Fitness, aggression and physicality we can compete on a level playing field as a rule. Sometimes we may even have a slight advantage.
Cheaper players as a broad brush rule make worse decisions and more errors, that's why they're cheaper.
So why is anyone surprised we have periods of average/poor quality.

It all depends on how long Ahadme is out for, no?
If we're paying some of the wages and he's out til April, Charlton will be surely quite happy for him to stay here. Frees up some of their wage bill, while clogging up ours. Or we pay to terminate the loan.
Now, I don't understand how it all works so the above could be total nonsense. But it's not inconceivable?

I do feel like we play with the handbrake on for whatever reason and it's mostly awful to watch with a few exceptions. I brought a couple of friends to the Cardiff home game who won't be back in a rush, and can't imagine many neutrals will be keen to return after today's game either.
We don't create many chances but a huge problem is that Reid offers nothing up front at the moment. With Ahadme and now Young injured I would almost prefer seeing us try Sweeney up there then continually trying the same thing.
Yes, he's a confidence player, but if he's not building confidence from repeatedly starting games then when will he? It's not as if he's a pressing machine or wins loads in the air so without the goals I'm not sure what we get from him starting every game. He gets so opportunities to play and impress, but everyone bar Revs seems to appreciate he can't lead the line on his own - it's infuriating.

Stockport away was great. One of the most enjoyable games in a long time. That wasn't long ago. Like I say, if you only see the shit games that will be your lasting impression.
If we had another striker we might not play Reid up top on his own. Revs recognised we needed a player like Ahadme and then he got injured so haven't had any options other than Young who clearly isn't favoured.
I don't think you can blame Revs for creating a game plan to win games and being let down by player errors (or in the case of Cardiff, errors by officials).
And the current points and position are well on expected target.

Injuries are clearing becoming an issue. Malcolm isn't up to scratch yet and we don't have any replacement for Dan Kemp in the number 10 position.
It's no coincedence we've looked poorer with Chem, Kemp and Roberts all missing. Phillips isn't a number 10 and was awful first half.

Lack of shape, and ideas. If Reid plays he needs a striker alongside him. He's not a target man or hold up player. So bloody frustrating that Revs can't see it.

Well, he did, and it was a much better second half. We suddenly seemed to have some forward movement and I began to see a brighter future with our goal. But then it didn’t last long and we created few actual chances once they’d equalised. Their goal had a bit of luck attached to it in the way it bounced off Kemp but they capitalised on it and took their chance. Fully agreed with the subs and we looked much better after them, but a miserable result and more dropped points. We must be better.

First half was just woeful. No tempo from us whatsoever. Unacceptable at home.
Second half Fan P was immediately playing 10 yards higher up, Luther was pushing up higher and we looked good until about 10 minutes after the goal.
We went backwards after they scored but did pick it up when the 3 subs came on about 72 minutes, looked rhe more likely to score a winner and Philips was at the heartbof a lot of our pressing and disrupting.
Malcolm worked hard but did little, expectnto see little of him and Lubala once Roberts is fit.
Pheonix is improving defensively and created 2 or 3 dangerous chances by beating a man or linking up with Harvey and then getting a cross in.
Reid was given zero real service, Young would be worth a start for.me, give Reid the last 20/25 against Orient if we aren't winning
