We're punching above our weight so please don't question the turgid dross now being served up by Revell on a weekly basis.

I'll give credit where it's due. This defence is up there with the best we've ever had. Conceding just 15 goals in the first 20 games and 8 clean sheets. I think we must be still close to or have least goals per game conceded in the 72.
My comments previously about stagnation weren't pitching us for relegation. I'm still massively impressed by this team. I see us finishing comfortably in the mid-table and probably inside the top half if we continue.
25pts in our first 10, and 11pts in our second 10 isn't bad at all. If we're going to accept the team isn't going through it's best period then still picking up just over a point a game is really quite good, and really thanks to our miserly defence.
We'll get back to winning ways before the end of the season and I'd put good money on the points from our next 10 being higher.
Just hope we can bring someone in over the January window who can start banging in goals regularly.

To what do you personally attribute that change in form to? Why did we do 25 in the first 10 but only 11 in the second - that’s quite a shift in results? Not challenging you as such, genuinely curious about your thoughts.

I think Hitchin is right about us getting sussed up front at least. We also have definitely had a much tougher run of games in the last 10.
Our forwards going through a dry patch (although hopefully that's coming to an end now) has come at the worst time as well.
All in all it's the perfect storm of things coming together to stagnate form. Without our defence being the absolute rock it is we'd be outside the playoffs right now and sinking fast.
Given our current position and the strength our defence I think there is still time to correct things and get back to being competitive with the top 6.

I do understand peoples frustrations at the lack of chances created but also the league is so tight , Barnsley who are in 9th are only 4 points above relegation so you could say if we were below 9th we’d be in with a chance of being relegated. I and everyone would like us to create more chances but the reality of it is that those players who are more creative are going to play for the bigger clubs and we still posses more creative players that we’ve had in the past . I actually still enjoy battling draws and it keeps the excitement alive of a promotion. I’d take a battling draw on Monday and then 46 next year in the Championship until we are ready for our prem push the following season. 😊

Good answer thanks, and I largely agree. I believe that most of the team are about as good as we can hope for, just a little spark up front and some attacking intent like at Stockport and we’ll stay top 6. It was only fine lines against Burton and Wimbledon - not preventing the cross for 2-2 at Burton or Charlie Goode’s header at Dons - that have dropped us 4 points recently, so relatively minor tweaks to performance should see us up there.

The stuttering form from those around us has really helped.
I'd still credit us holding steady largely to our defence, but we've certainly had results going our way.

That's all what ifs though.
What if our defence wasn't as solid and the teams around us had better form?
That's football.

Our defenders have largely stopped being able to head a ball at a goal accurately when we get a set piece.
Our defenders give away the ball when clearing our lines, we seem to be playing more.long hopeful balls up the pitch, early on we seemed to be playing through midfield more leading to more chances. I have no idea if this is proven with stats, but if it is, it'll be coached/drilled into the CBs, or at least should be coachable out of of the habit.
And Kemp has dropped off a.cliff form wise before his injury, and doesn't get anywhere near the key pass numbers he did, again I'd like to know whether his stats back this up. He, along with White, is our creative outlet, able to pick a pass.

Dare i say it, we also miss Jordan Roberts too.
We had the same starting XI for the first few months of the season, now it's forever changing due to injuries and suspensions.

Yes. I think Roberts has been off his game lately and has often appeared to be absent in games, but I also can’t help the feeling that he has been a loss to the side since he’s been out. I didn’t feel he was doing much well when he was here, but I wonder if we’re missing certain creative qualities without him? A strange one to ponder.

Roberts is very divisive, particularly on here, but most seem to recognise when he plays well the team plays well. I don't think it's any coincidence that we look a lot less threatening when he's not playing, not just for the technical ability he (often) offers but also because he's strong and good in the air which helps move us up the pitch.
Him missing and, as others have said, Kemp not being on it means we're lacking our two best - in my opinion anyway - attacking outlets. Then take White out and we haven't got many people who can create chances for us.
There's also clearly something in the way we set up and maybe we need to take more risks in moving people up the pitch but I think the biggest issue at the moment is no Kemp and Roberts.

Whether he starts or is a sub, he's a valuable player to have. Yesterday for example no Chem Campbell, so Roberts would have been guaranteed to start and whilst he's frustrating when he does play he's also often missed when he doesn't.

Opposition have a body of evidence to watch and plan for against us
The opposition in the first 10 games were much weaker than the second 10
White and Kemp have missed a few of the second 10
Seem to stand out for me

Just a thought on this perhaps opposition teams have now sussed us out and just try to stop us playing ? Of course with our squad we should be able to counter this.

Our overall play could have been sussed out meaning less chances created for Attack.

Re: Just remember boys & girls

Based on the difference we are seeing in our play, it seems the opposition are now setting up differently to stop our wingers getting down the wing and in behind, perhaps formation change to prevent spaces in those areas. Sitting deeper maybe. Certainly not giving us as much time on the ball or space and we aren't quite good enough to play any quicker or create the space we need.
But as mentioned elsewhere, that's just one of a number of contributory factors, in addition to the opposition themselves becoming better teams, or playing harder sides, injuries and forced changes in personnel and possibly as a result formation.
Not that we're terrible or anything, just not finding that extra bit needed for some results.
Stockport away though was a fantastic game.

Not particularly exciting today. Stockport game on the other hand was great.
There will be plenty of excitement if we're still around the playoff places in the Spring. In fact my ageing ticker may not cope haha

Fuck the neutrals.
Much rather we play to our strengths and punch above our weight than try to entertain neutrals and lose.
Our joint-most points and wins EVER after 20 matches in L1, and joint-fewest defeats after the same period. Our fewest conceded ever after 20 matches in our entire EFL history.
Doing the best we have done ever in the entire history of the club, but fuck Revs and fuck all of our players.

Played 20, lost 4. That should be all that needs to be said. No, it isn't always exciting, but we are so, so good defensively.
That doesn't mean we can't get better. We all know where we need to improve. Delighted that Malcolm did so well today and that Jake Young is finally getting some minutes. We are going to need all the squad over the next few months.
Stellar signings in the Jan transfer window simply don't happen; unless you splash ridiculous cash cast-offs are all that are available. But this is turning into quite some season with the players we already have.

For us, we are doing great. I'm not sure it will quite be good enough compared to the other teams around us, as I expect them to get better and also possibly improve in January if they have weaknesses, whereas I doubt we are going to be able to improve much on what we already have.
Still doing a grand job though.

Not always great but I would say I’ve found more games entertaining than not.
The result is everything this season but that doesn’t mean it’s NOT entertaining! I keep going back, as do many others.
Let’s not forget, loads of pre-season predictions put us as favourites for relegation & I feared the worst when Revell was re-appointed! I’m delighted to admit I was wrong & even more delighted to bask in the glory of chasing promotion!
