Just read HCC selling of land in front of the new school, we already lease part via Avery for Sports Hub.Wonder if we are looking at as possible new ground site or for more expansion at least.Could obviously just be putting 2 and 2 together

I'd guess the current stadium site has a 'leisure and community use' covenant on it.
Otherwise the cash strapped local council would've flogged it ages ago when we were tinpot and not that many people would care. Too late now we are proper.

I think an indoor market would work well on our current site. And I'm sure there's a developer out there who could maybe dig a trench in the pitch to make sure it happens.

Is that what the rumour was as to what the site was earmarked for when the trench was dug?

From what I remember the ultimate aim of Mr Reveulta leaseholder was to get acquire the land and build houses on it. The Development Corporation was not interested the Mr Reveulta dtopped paying the rent.
After the trench incident and lengthy legal action the leade was forfeited. Commercial debtors was one of my responsibilities at the time so I spent some time writing pay up or else letters before the Corporation lawyers slowly swung into action.

From memory of thumbing through the archives, I believe so. May still have a scan of the newspaper report...
EDIT: I mis-remembered... there were plans for a sports centre or a car park for a Sunday market(?!), but both were rejected. Toys were thrown out of prams and trenches were dug:
