Disappointing but the focus can now be solely on the league.
Feel like two or three could be moved on in January as a core squad of ~21 is probably sufficient to complete the season.

Ummm in case you didn’t notice we’re 2nd,
So you aren’t allowed to be critical or concerned about our recent performances.

I mean, the stats suggest we had lots of shots on goal.
The trouble was that, for a long time, the only one on target was the goal – and even that was down to dire keeping.

We never troubled the keeper, really poor in and around the box. (Howler for Pidge's goal aside)
Dominated possession comfortably and completed 3 times the passes Walsall did, but it was all so bloody predictable and slow in the build up.
Spin it across the back, get it out to the flanks, wait till they've got their backline sorted and we are outnumbered 4 to 1 in rhe box, then pop a cross in.
Sweep up and repeat.
Goode at fault for the goal as much as, if not more rhan TAH, Charlie should have taken charge and got rid.

Trying to play like prime Barcelona when we don't have the cbs for it is my biggest cristism of Revs alongside persisting with the Goode long throws. It's how we tried to play in his first stint as manager. At the start of the season we were pressing high and hard and driving at the opposition quickly in turnovers. We seem to have completely lost that element of our game.

We don't try and play like that normally.
Walsall let us have the ball and sat back keeping their shape, slowing us down so we kept it too long.
We have to find a way to break through teams that do that, it isn't easy, but they'll do it more because they know we are a decent side when we play quicker, and it works.
But we can't simply lump long and diagonal balls either.
It's why the game is easy to play but hard to play well.

Agree . We know our CBs strengths and weaknesses. Why Charlie was encouraging Jasper to go backward I'm not sure. Lack of trust...? But we've had conversations about it. It's not coached or encouraged.
Revs said to me after Donny. It's not easy to break teams down at this level and we have to have different plans .

I'm glad Goode made an error for once. He's been different gravy for the first 4 months of the season.

A team of players that looked like they've never played together, which to be fair, they probably haven't. Defensively woeful. Clinically woeful.
Oh well, bring back the first team for the big game up next!

Half of that team were the first team....
Against a Walsall second XI, including youngsters making competitive debuts and two ageing forwards.
Overall a shit night in what should have been a great opportunity to progress.

Tbf, the Vertu Trophy should be far down our list of priorities - despite the prospect of Wembley and prize money. I'd rather we hadn't titted up the FA Cup and would be happy if our profligacy last night means we are sharper in our next league fixture.

Were they? Pidge and Goode.
Marschall, Butler, Wildin, White, Houghton, Kemp, Reid and possibly Roberts are more often than not the first team.

Freestone has started most games recently, Campbell must have played more than not, he seems to absolutely love Lubala for some reason.
