Is Anybody There?

It's match day, Peterborough away, and yet again three points (however unlikely that seems right now) puts us top of the league. Thoughts anyone?
It seems we can hardly buy a goal at the moment let along a win. So on the basis that they can't do any worse than recent incumbents let's play Phoenix as a 10 with Jake Young as a 9. Sure to happen...

How Phoenix doesn’t start is beyond me shows promise when he comes on looks to be the only player sometimes creating opportunities yet Revs never starts it.
0 goals in 3 games and the player who looks the lively on the bench 🤷🏻♂️

Good impact sub. Doesn’t do enough defensively and decision making has to improve. Until those things change he stays an impact sub.

Where does Phoenix start in a 5-3-2?
I’d like to see him more too but he’s not going to play in a formation without wingers

We won't play 5-3-2 very often.
Which is a shame. Suits Luther and Butler, and Sweeney probably better in a trio of CBs.
And Ahadme works better with a partner it seems.
And best of all it means Roberts can warm the bench.

He can't do the defensive side of the game he'd need to if he were to start

Given the players who are starting it seems he wouldn't fit in this formation. We aren't playing wingers by the looks of it. 3 at the back with wing backs for defensive duties, so in this formation you wouldn't replace Butler or Wildin with Phoenix and expect him to be able to job the job they're doing.

There's definitely no way we end up losing and throwing Phoenix on anyway because nothing is working of course

Isn't that the plan though (not the losing bit but to have an option off the bench). Bring on your exciting, skilful, pacey player against players getting tired.
When Phoenix has started league games we haven't done anything and then brought on someone else because nothing is working.

I think there's a risk with this sort of player if you don't occasionally start them you end up throwing them into lose lose situations all the time. Of course you can prevent that by not getting into bad form in the first place.

Because there is a huge difference between coming off the bench and starting.
He massively lacks the physicality and defensive ability to start most games, and every time he has started a match he has been anonymous, other than playing in the competition you claim to boycott, where he looks decent against children or reserve players who don't care.

He won't change the shape, despite since the Lincoln game every team doing a job on us.
You know exactly how we are going to play every game and we need to be better/ more adaptable than that.

Does look like a change to be fair. I'd say 5-3-2.
Wildin Sweeney Goode Freestone Butler
Phillips White
Kemp
Gas. Reid
Young not even on the bench. Phillips and Sweeney, what could go wrong? 😂

That's how I saw it.
Youngs played once, must be injured again 🤣
Saxon is an odd one too, kept playing EFL Trophy games then disappears.

Is Anybody There?
I mean Farley is usually first though the turnstiles but even he probably wouldn't be there at 16:30
But I think we will set up defensively, sit in a bit and try and disrupt and slow the game. And I think we might nick a score draw.

I don't know how to approach this one.
Peterborough are the in form team and recently beaten the very best in the league. They score for fun.
So do we
1) go ultra defensive and hope our normally solid defence can see out a nil nil and you never know we might nick a goal from a set piece etc. But in my opinion we would end up losing anyway with that approach.
Or
2) go out with nothing to lose attitude super attacking as I'm not sure they're that good defensively, possibly concede 4 but potentially score 3.
Either way I think we lose, but given we don't have Pidge I'd rather go for number 2 approach. Throw caution to the wind and see what happens in what could be a highly entertaining game.
We need a Wrexham away performance from last season.

At least without Pidge, while we may be susceptible at the back, at least we should be slightly better going forwards.

Love him, but he really limits our attack when we play through him.

I think our early season form was in large part down to switching to Goode having the ball from the goalie instead of Pidge. Roberto Ayala-esque.

A draw would be acceptable...keep adding the points here and there and we'll be knocking on the door of the play offs. I'm not expecting anything more from our season. If that doesn't happen and we can better 14th, I would see that as an improvement. Anything less I would be thankful to still be in League 1. Call me unambitious but I think this is more of a reality.

I enjoy how quickly people forget how enjoyable and entertaining the opening couple/few months were just because we have struggled to score for a few games.
Edit: FWIW I am expecting a 2-0/3-0 defeat (and people to then bitch and moan and say PW fucked up by giving Revs a new deal and that everything is awful) tonight, but won't be overreacting to that or the past handful of games, in the same way I didn't react to our opening eight or ten games and think we were going to win the league.

He absolutely fucked up giving him a 5 year, unless there were some incredibly favourable clauses in there. Did anyone think it was a good idea, even at the time?

Re: Is Anybody There?

I think we all know PW and his shrewdness by now to know that there is absolutely no worry in the contract and it won't hamstring us in any way, so it may as well be a two year extension, other than it giving those who dislike Revs or PW something to bang on about.
And why did he "absolutely fuck up", out of interest? Revs was predicted by so many last year to take us down, yet we finished in a very comfortable position and were never troubled. This year he has us on our most ever wins and points, just two goals off our most ever scored, and on our fewest ever conceded, after 14 L1 games. Win tonight and we go top. Even if we don't we still have one or two games in hand on all those above us, with them fewer than three points above us, except for Cardiff. And if anybody is using Cardiff as a yardstick to measure our success against then they are a fucking moron.
If you didn't think Revs was the best manager and we were definitely going up after the first eight games, you shouldn't think he is the worst manager and we are fucked now. He has shown more than enough over the past 18 months to suggest he is a more than capable L1 manager who can do well with us, and as importantly, that he genuinely cares about our club, like we all do.

I'm sure Revs did..
And given that there will be performance related break clauses it's a no lose for Phil:-
Revs feels loved;
Players that like Revs commit to the club;
Revs does well and he stays;
Revs does well and gets poached, we get mega compo;
Revs does shit, we let him go with fair but affordable compensation under a performance break clause.

What makes you think there are performance break clauses? Every time a manager gets sacked its reported how large their pay offs are to the end of their contracts? Why would ours/Revs accept different?

Because there almost always are. I'm not saying he can be sacked for poor performance and get nothing but there will be an "if we are relegated we can release you for X months salary" and an "if your PPG drops below X for for more than Y games we may release.you for X months salary.
They generally get compensation in instalments anyway, and they stop as soon as they get another management job.
