Not at all. It’s about preserving his resale value, if there is a taker due to success. Sound business IMO

Sound business unless you have to sack him... in which case it will cost PW a fortune

There's probably break clauses in the contract. PW isn't daft

I get that some people might not feel confident in the manager, but seriously, give him a chance.
A few bad results and suddenly your hitting the panic button. Hang on a minute, let’s focus on the positives.
We’re currently 4th and punching above our weight this season.
Let’s enjoy that instead of dwelling on a few recent setbacks.

People questioning the manager after a few poor results is no more kneejerk than dishing out a 5 year deal after a few good ones.

Perhaps Phill Wallace sees potential and wanted to back him long term, only the board can answer that.

Most employers reward people for doing well over a period of time, not just a couple of weeks, don't they? Pay rises, bonuses are done over a period of time usually 6 months to a year.
Evans signed a new contract and then went, i hope that was a shrewd move by Wallace, so contracts really aren't worth the paper they are scribbled on
Could you imagine the managerial go round if they just went on a month to month basis
A lot of fans seem to forget football to these guys is a just a job nothing more nothing less, we all have bad days at work we all make mistakes

Because it suggests the new contract wasn't given purely on the basis of a few/handful of good results to start this season.

Not really - we are 4th in L1 with a game in hand, soon to be two on Bradford and Stockport, we've have had what I believe is our best ever start, and have a manager that's a. competent and developing and b. actually wants to be here rather than looking for the next opportunity that heads his way.
As Chuds said below, please don't assume we're now going to be battering everyone for the rest of the season. We've had three shit results amongst some very good ones and are still one of the smallest clubs in the league, if not the smallest. If we start getting entitled and expecting perfection, then everyone will be very disappointed, very quickly.

Just because it coincided with a couple of poor results? Seems very kneejerky. There's no way we should be in the automatic slots with our resources, the start to the season was incredible

And that is the problem with our start. People are now expecting us to win every game and be challenging for the title, which is just ridiculous.
We remain on our most ever wins, joint-most ever points, joint-fewest ever goals conceded and are just one goal off our most scored, after 13 matches in League One. Just two points off top and with a game in hand. Yet people are already starting to turn on the manager!

Myself and Mrs Mutley attended last nights game, whilst i appreciate it wasn't the greatest performance, people still don't really grasp how far above our weight we are punching, one thing that i was quite taken aback by was the amount of abuse some of our fans give our players and i don't just mean passing comment to your mate
Trying to start a chant that Ahadme is shit and shouldn't be on the pitch etc etc
Harvey white getting shit every time he touched the ball
Yet Pidge makes numerous mistake and misjudgements and not a word is said
the whole team has gone off the boil right now, its not individuals its a collective problem, one thing for sure is the players don't need the fans getting on their backs!

Not gonna lie, 95% of the live Stevenage matches I've watched were either in the Conference or League 2 - I live on the other side of the country now. When I occasionally get to go watch us play the likes of Wigan or Blackpool away, even if we lose 3:0 I'm still slightly taken aback by how much more naturally talented our players are nowadays. And that's taking nothing away from the Jon Ashtons, Chris Beardsleys, or Ronnie Henrys of the past (add your own example, talented players but first and foremost hard workers), I just mean we've come a heck of a long way even to be a moderately decent League 1 side.
We're incredible overachievers, off the backs of the efforts of players in years gone by like them, that we can even enjoy being at the top of League 1 for one week of the year. I don't take a second of it for granted.

‘people still don't really grasp how far above our weight we are punching’
You’ve hit the nail on the head. Because of our unexpectedly fine start fans now expect us to turn up at teams like Reading and beat them - and are genuinely miffed when we don’t. I’m the first to criticise a bad performance but we are punching ridiculously high above our weight right now. Talk of being promotion contenders, in my opinion, is ludicrous

That is really sad to hear, historically I always felt our fanbase had been pretty good at not personally attacking players at matches.
I always thought we were probably one of the easier crowds to play in front of, compared to most places you go.

As Mrs Mutley pointed out, most of them giving out that type of shit probably weren't even born when we was non-league so the achievement of what the team are actually doing is wasted, there must have been lots of tired school kids in Stevenage today!
but hey they pay their money and are entitled to their opinion

No, not fickle, it is just those who stayed silent previously (but have been waiting to jump back on the attack of Revs) are now being cocks, rather than people previously supporting him turning.
The latter point I haven't ever disagreed with :).

What about all of us who didn't want him reappointed?
Who now think he's great.
Are we fickle?
(I didn't want him back, I thought it demonstrated a lack of ambition and was a typical Wallace off the wall cheap option).

I don’t think so. There were never any questions over him as a man. I’d say he’s won over the fan base with hard work and results now. Doesn’t make those of us who questioned it fickle, we only had evidence to show he’d been in the job before and not done a good job of it.
He’s now a victim of his own success in a way with silly comments about his (earned) contract after a bad week of results.

Oooh, that reminds me, BoroPod asked me for the breakdown of his two separate stints as manager last night, but it was during the match so didn't do it at the time.
I shall do so now, and will put it on here too for people like Baldock who don't read Twitz.

I’d imagine so far there won’t be as much of a gulf from Revs I to Revs II as could be expected. His one full League Two season was middle of the road, as was his full season in charge last term arguably. The outliers being his second season in League Two where he was ultimately sacked and this season thus far where we’ve handed him a five year deal for doing an outstanding job to this point.

Revs I:
P64 W17 D23 L24 GF54 GA74.
27% win rate. 1.16PPG. 0.84GPG. 23 clean sheets. 27 shut outs.
Revs II:
P61 W24 D15 L22 GF63 GA63.
39% win rate. 1.43PPG. 1.03GPG. 21 clean sheets. 20 shut outs.
Edit: And also to consider that his second spell has been in League One, playing against far bigger clubs with far better resources than ours.

So in 3 games time we can do a direct numerical comparison.
The clean sheet figures are very very similar.

Turned a bunch of draws into wins, scoring more goals, and when we concede we let in fewer goals than before.
