He’s prone to a clanger. Thats due to his style of play. He’s too long in the tooth to iron that out now. Have no problem him being here as a squad player. If there is one player in the squad we need to protect it is Goode so I can understand Sweeney playing yesterday.
I think there’s a reason Revs has kept some players around when perhaps they aren’t quite up to it and that’s they fit the culture he’s trying to cultivate. Something that is more important than noticeable at first glance arguably.
For me, a centre back has to be top of our shopping list come January. If Goode (or Pidge) gets injured and Freestone is still doing a job at left back then I don’t think we can rely on Sweeney week in, week out.

I will only spoiler a small part of Neil's email, but this really made me laugh when looking at his player ratings

Which is a ridiculous rating.
I would argue that he was the better CB until that one misplaced pass (and it was Pidge who fouled their guy for the penalty), and as I said last night, he had already blocked two goalbound shots off the line in the first half.
Nobody played well yesterday, and Sweeney has a clanger in him more often than our other CBs (because he is more willing to play out from the back in an attempt to retain possession, rather than just lumping it upfield/out of play), but he also gets slated for things that other players don't even get criticised for, there is no consistency from our fans when it comes to him.
He clearly (and correctly) isn't in our first choice CB pairing and is probably on a decent wage after a few contract extensions, so I wouldn't be upset were he to leave in the summer, but I also think he is mostly perfectly adequate cover as a CB and has been involved in a LOT of clean sheets for us down the years.
A massive overreaction to one misplaced pass (which every single one of our players did countless times yesterday), by people who always have an agenda against him, for me.

On a similar note, the technicians at the Chernobyl facility did plenty of good work that doesn't get talked about.

He was good, until he wasn’t.
Unfortunately, as mentioned below, a Sweeney error more often than not leads to a big goal scoring opportunity. You don’t mind it if it’s every now and then but it happens far too often.

So, what you're saying is move him further forward, so his mistakes don't lead to goals...

Wouldn't be the first time he's played up front. Do it Revs...

Agree with most comments but let's remember he was not the only one not up to levels needed yesterday.

Can't dispute anything that has been said. All I can add, is our attendance wasn't up to levels either...our fans couldn't be bothered and so it appears niether could our team. We got our just rewards...diddly squat.

He’s been poor for years. I remember even our promotion winning season him having some absolute stinkers at Rochdale away in particular.
He’s not a L1 player and arguable if he’d even be good enough for L2.

At best he is a National League player.
He has no concept of danger for a professional footballer !

Makes you wonder why Revell has stuck by him, regularly names him in the squad and squanders treble figures per annum on him.
It's almost as if he has more experience of, and knows more about, football and what it takes to play at this level, than us lot.

After listening to his interview yesterday and looking at his substitution I think there maybe a chance it may not be so regularly.
Either way , it’s almost as if that’s the point of a forum i suppose, to discuss opinions.
