Am I the only one that's somewhat surprised the club aren't doing deals on tickets for the game? Surely better to try and get bums on seats?

Would there be much of a difference in attendance between charging £20 and £25/£26 (going on seat pricing)?
Might as well go for the higher price in the likely event that there isn't.

Correct.
I too was disappointed, and hoped it would be more like £20, but it makes sense from a revenue perspective as the increase in those attending if tickets were £15 (for arguments sake) would definitely not be enough to make up for the loss in revenue compared to those who will attend at £25 (dunno what the terrace is).
As it is the FA Cup and a home tie, I have bought my lovely seat in the Norf Stand for it.

Big clubs can reduce tickets to fill seats and you end up with a pretty different turnout to what you would on a matchday with price-conscious families or students turning out in place of season ticket holders. Think it was like that in the home end when we beat Villa.
I don't think we have the economies of scale to make it work often. You'd need a really specific fixture exciting enough to fill the ground but not enough so you that couldn't just do it at full price.

Yep.
Say we made tickets half the price they are, does anybody really think it would result in twice the attendance that we will be getting on Saturday anyway? Because I can almost guarantee that it wouldn't.
If the argument was that this is a chance to let fans attend cheaper than normal, almost as a thanks for the support in the league, and to give more backing to the team, that would be a different argument, but ultimately we are going to be struggling to compete in L1 every season so every pound of profit we make counts, and so I am not sure as a club we can be taking decisions on any basis other than maximising revenue, which is exactly what we have done here.

Still think ST holders should get a discount on cup games.
It can be factored into the ST price so the club make a little more on ST sales and it incentivises ST holders to still splash out ⅔ of the ticket price or whatever.
Finding the sweet spot that hits
Good PR
Gate / atmosphere boost
Minimised cost to club
Should be doable, if we go our first round you as ST holders don't feel like you've been diddled but if we travel a fair way into the cups you've done well.

Well, I wouldn't complain with that of course.
But the issue with that is the club would have to either a) pay that shortfall for STH income to the opposition club, or b) agree that their STH also get the same discount, which could cut revenue even more should we draw a club with a large STH base.
I really should apply for that club secretary role we currently have 😂

Who's covering the job currently?
It's quite a key role, or always used to be.

Hadn't thought of that. But is that right, we'd have to offer their ST holders the same discount, don't think it could be, lots of clubs offer loyalty discounts for home fans at cup games don't they?

There are contradictory reports about it, so not 100% certain now. May need to read up on the FA Cup handbook for this season when I get home.
My understanding was that both clubs had to agree to the ticket prices (and they have to be above the minimum price as set by the FA) including if any discount is to be offered for STH.
However there is a FSA article suggesting that clubs no longer agree and the home side decides on the price, yet at the same time there is an article posted by Carlisle last season saying for their match against Boston that both clubs had to agree ticket prices, and that Carlisle wanted to offer a discount to STH of both clubs, but that Boston didn't agree so the FA had to get involved in the discussions and agreed prices.

The below is from this season's FA Cup rulebook.
"Admission Charges – Competition Proper
217. For Competition Matches in the Competition Proper, the Home Club shall determine and confirm
the prices of admission within seven days of the relevant draw, subject to a minimum admission
charge of £10.00 for all spectators other than concessions.
218. The price of admission for fans of the Away Club may only be higher than the price of admission
for fans of the Home Club where this is mutually agreed by both Clubs.
Season Ticket Holders
219. Where the cost of a Club’s season ticket includes admission to Competition Matches, that Club
shall:
219.1. advise The Association of the total value (including VAT) and number of its season ticket
sales for that Season upon request; and
219.2. include in match receipts reported on the Statement of Receipts and Payment Form the
total value of season ticket sales divided by the maximum number of Matches in any
other Competition (as defined in Rule A2 of The Association’s Rules) that the season
ticket holder is entitled to attend during the Season.

Yeah, the pricing is really disappointing. I probably won’t bother.

Do both clubs have to agree the prices etc, as gate receipts are shared?

Yes think so and possibly FA too.

The FA only get involved if the clubs cannot agree on the ticketing details.
Although there is a minimum amount that must be charged per round, as directed by the FA, so you could argue they are involved in every tie in that respect.
