EFL Trophy
Views: 1145
Only the second time we have topped the group, and only the second time we have won all three matches.
Scored 12 goals in the group, which is five more than our best in the previous nine years of there being a group stage.
Three debutants today and two players scoring their first goal for the club.
£50k won in prize money.
A home tie in the next round, to be drawn in November and played in December.
Edit: The only downside is Butler being booked, meaning he is suspended for the next round.

Jovan Malcolm has something - a touch of class. Good athlete. Takes up good positions. Good on the turn, and a direct runner

Hard to tell against these type of sides in this type of game but took his goal well, and looked to have something there. Tried a bit too hard at times I felt. Not sure he'll have an amazing career with us, but nice option to have and hopefully pushing the likes of Reid in training to higher standards.

£20k for competing.
£10k per win (£5k if a draw) in the group stage.
£20k if we win the next round.

Realistically when you take accounts of player win bonuses, security, staff and Keith's laundry bill, £10k probably doesn't even cover the cost of hosting a game.
How much are tickets and how many are we getting now at these games?

Usually 600-900 at home. £12/£10/Free.
All expenses are covered (including away travel) prior to any gate receipts then being shared between the clubs, and the central pool.

He's here for a reason. Probably to experience first team football for a few months.

Not watched the game but a goal and two assists appears to contradict the above views on LO. Not a reflection of his overall performance?
Edit: just realised the comments may be to wind up Whammers!

Had a quiet first half, but was fantastic 2nd half.
Always supporting the ball carrier, worked hard, ran with the ball well, won fouls and popped up with 3 goal contributions.
Does make me chuckle that there is praise for Malcolm on here (who was fine) and not Orford.
Borochat much prefers a plucky non league work horse as opposed to a flash young academy lad.
Doherty looked good too. Fantastic on the ball, work to do defensively, plenty good enough for a L2 loan spell.

Having had time to reflect and sleep on it I would like to apologise to absolutely fookin' nobody. 🤣
I guess there is an expectation influence on how players are viewed. Malcolm from non league I expected to be average, so if he does something well it would be a positive.
Having heard how Orford is the second coming of Jesus for weeks I expected him to be amazing, so whilst he had a good debut, it was a bit like "oh is that it".
That is not to say Orford is rubbish, far from it. He was clearly better than the Palace U21s. My reaction was more to people suggesting he is a better option than White currently.

On Twitter some suggested starting lineups including him instead of White because he put in such a dazzling display last night with two assists and a goal. (Ignoring that the assists were simple passes and the goal was a scuffed shot anyone could score - but you do have to be on the right place and he was, probably one of his strengths reading the game and positioning)

Admittedly we haven’t had many good academy cast offs/loans.
White is starting to come good. TAH was good (what the fuck has happened to him though) Ogilvie was good.
Can’t think of anyone else.

No wind up.
Looked a bit nervy early on. Heavy touches, didn't really do a lot.
Fairly simple assist for Phoenix goal which was all about the finish. Don't recall another.
His goal was basically a tap in after great work from Doherty and even then I think he miss-hit it against the defender but luckily creeped in.
He wasn't bad, but against an open, fairly average U21 side he didn't stand out as anything special. Phoenix stood out as being far better than that level.
He's a bit like White when we first got him. Will need a year or two to develop and become accustomed to men's football in League One.
Why anyone would want him in ahead of White I do not know, after White is having his best season so far. It'd be backwards step.

Re: FAO Whammers

Yep, our group all said Doherty was the standout midfielder today, ahead of Phillips and Orford.
Deserved that goal after doing all the hard work too, shame it was saved for Orford to then score instead.
Don't get me wrong, Orford obviously has talent and it was his first game, but I am seeing a lot of our mostly younger fans raving about him today, but he didn't stand out for me and made a lot of errors. Reminds me of Finlay Burns, who our younger fans raved about but who I thought was actually quite shit (not saying Orford is) and worse than what we already had (Louis Thompson) so shouldn't have started ahead of them. On that showing, we ought to stick with Houghton and White in midfield.

The pace and intensity of a League One game would leave Orford for dead right now. Docherty has made a few first tema appearances and is beginning to look the part. It takes time...

Something has happened to Taye (maybe to be expected after hardly playing for two years).
I am not sure either of our GKs is good enough. If we want to be promoted anyway. They are fine to just exist in League One.
