World Cup Qualifiers
Views: 899
I know we're all focused on the home nations but if anyone is interested today at 5pm on the FIFA+ app Cape Verde are playing Eswatini. A victory for them or Cameroon failing to beat Angola (kicking off at the same time) sends them through to their first ever World Cup, making them the second smallest nation (behind Iceland) ever to qualify.

According to FIFA’s website, it still is…
However, Cape Verde are apparently heading to the USA next summer if I’ve understood correctly?

If this was a role-playing game these games against Germany would give him loads of experience points and he'd level up for us

2 - 0 up and cruising. Absolute scenes in Praia.
Still 0 - 0 on the Cameroon games as well.
Sensational.

Cape Verde 3 - 0 Eswatini
The Blue Sharks are off to the World Cup!
Just listening to the commentary and they've won 6 of their last 7 games (their draw in the last game they were robbed of the win by a dodgy offside call).
Unbeaten at home and haven't conceded a single goal in their 5 home games in qualification. Wonder if that makes them the Stevenage of Africa.
Think I've got my second team for the World Cup! (Well third if Scotland qualify)

When FIFA have expanded it so much that every country plays in the finals, including shit like Scotland, reaching the finals doesn't feel like much of an achievement.
Surprised Chelsea aren't playing in it.

It's gonna make the group stages a lot duller. Most groups will only have one decent team in, odds-on to walk the group.
There'll be lots of goals, but as Latvia V England proved, a one-sided win is extremely dull even if you score a hatful.

I wouldn't be so sure. Teams like Cape Verde will absolutely raise their game against teams like us.
Giant killings happen all the time. We've been responsible for a fair few ourselves afterall.
Remember the Costa Rica group in 2014.
This World Cup is far too big but I don't see many dull games and if anything the duller games will come when some of the bigger nations cancel each other out.
As for Cape Verde, they topped their group and would be there under the old format.

There's 12 groups, and with the 3 hosts as seeds, only the top 9 in the world will be the other seeds, so they will still get some decent games. Italy and Germany currently outside the top 9 and so won't be seeded, so their groups could be interesting (guaranteed they get put in one of the hosts groups though!)

Some of the highlights of recent World Cups have been Spain, Germany, Italy and England getting booted unceremoniously at the group stage.

They should have qualified on friday too, in injury time they had a goal incorrectly ruled out for offside, another chance cleared off the line and a third chance their playing was 1 on 1 with the keeper and kicked it straight at him when he'd already gone down!

I saw the offside call and it really was awful. Hope they can consign that moment to history today.
Had a look and they've got a population slightly smaller than Hull (and the surrounding area).
