Still no sign of Hammers loanee – good enough for England but not for Stevenage
You’ll have guessed by now that the subject of this article is West Ham youngster Lewis Orford. Sent out from the side on a season long loan to third tier Stevenage FC, presumably to get some regular football under his belt the West Ham youngster again missed out on even making the bench for tonights tie against Bromley
You may recall that Stevenage – leading the league one championship – claimed that the West Ham u21 England star would have to waiy.
Stevenage manager Alex Revell stated ” was due to the team’s successful start and tough competition for places. “
Really? This is the same Lewis Orford who was invited by England Manager Thomas Tuchel to train with the ENGLAND senior squad in the last international break. I’d not heard that Orford had an injury or any other reason to prevent him from being selected. I many be wrong. Orford can’t make it into Stevenage’s squad – not even on the bench, but surely the West Ham hierarchy must be tempted to cancel his loan and bring him back to West Ham at the end of the year.
Orford deserves to be part of the Nuno revolution and has too much talent to be kicking his heels in some dark, dank north Hertfordshire tin-pot third tier side who evidently think they’re too good for him.
So there.

Whether he plays or not, he probably benefits from training at a competitive men's club rather than, presumably, an U18 squad.
There also may be a physical adjustment period to be able to compete in a more physical league than youth players experience.
I'd get West Ham fans' argument more, if we were mid table or worse and losing a lot (in which case he probably would be playing) but we have won 8 out of 10 games so he'll just have to wait until we need to change it up.
Still 36 games to go.

And this is the 2nd international break since he joined and he was probably with England U20 squad when we played Bromley. IIRC it was a Tuesday when we signed him and he was whisked off to the England training camp by his agent straight after.

West Ham fans are a special group of people.
EDIT: Maybe Revs, who sees him in training each day, is a better judge of when he's ready to go up against League One's finest cloggers and hoofers.
