Largest ever league crowd
Views: 1361
7,228 today. Beats Luton in the Conference by 204 people. Leaves only Newcastle in 1998 as being a higher home crowd in our entire history.
And is now the most wins and points, and joint-most goals scored, for us in our FL history, ten games in.
And the seventh time ever we have opened with five straight home wins, just the second time since 1996.
And we have a number of injuries too.
Just ridiculous stuff. The league takes shape after ten games they say. Could we?!

You forget Birmingham in 1995.

And I saw somewhere yesterday that we are 3 points ahead of where Birmingham City were at this point last season. If that’s true - and I’d need a friendly stats expert to confirm it - then yes, we very much could!

We have exactly the same record as Birmingham did after 10 games, see table here

I hope to be. Saturdays still very busy and lacking money for the awaydays, but I have my eye on the Bradford game now!
Plus son gets the cheap game tickets now as he plays for Stevenage Boro juniors, and the next one of those is in November so we'll be packing out the North Stand with you again 😄

After today we're up to league average of 4,391. Reckon we'll get a big attendance for the Bradford game as well so could be on 4,500+ average by November.
Not sure why anyone was complaining about our attendances before.

How did the club manage the extra numbers?
Turnstiles cope OK?
Stewards effective but not officious?
I hear there was no bother from either sets of fans which is a credit to both sets of fans. No flares or smoke grenades.

Didn't see any hint of an issue at all, nor any sign of trouble.
Big queue to get into the JBT, but no issue for me as I thoroughly enjoyed waltzing past hundreds of them in their queue, to walk to the Norf Stand turnstile where there wasn't a single person queuing, despite the whole thing being sold out.

There was a police wagon and a lot of police at the far end of roaring meg after a bit of a coming together after the game, but very little trouble I think.

It was mostly fine, though it was a bit farcical trying to get in at the turnstiles halfway down the ET. One male steward and one female steward who could only search people of the same gender, so for 90% of the time only one of the turnstiles was actually being used.

The queue at the main BHW end of the east not great either, only 2 people searching so already a huge queue just after 2pm.
Otherwise day seemed to pass off fine

Definately need more searchers

No, they need searchers who know who to search and how to search.
Fewer better quality targetted searches far more effective than a blanket pat-down that you can easily bypass.
I remember when we never got searched, halcyon days.

You could have the best searcher in the world but if there’s only one of them and two turnstiles, you’re going to be getting people through more slowly than if you had two half decent searchers

Not if you're checking a smaller percentage.of fans.
A 5 second pat down is a pointless exercise.
It's not a deterrent and it never finds anything.
Whereas a 20 second proper search, preferably with a metal detector wand...

Ah yes, true. Though I presume the choice of who to search is dictated mostly from above rather than being up to the individual steward.

You *should* have an intelligence function pointing out who needs searching. Someone who knows what and who to look out for.
But that needs regular security who know our fan base and our (thankfully very small proportion of) idiots who seem to all use rhe same hairdresser who doesn't trim fringes and buy their overpriced clothes from the same gentlemen outfitters.

I used to be one of the stewards stationed outside the turnstiles, performing the searches. We were expected to perform a number of random checks & it was our choice who to search. As I had been a steward for many years I knew a large number of supporters & a number of them would offer themselves to be searched to help me. There were cameras keeping an eye on us!
At Saturday’s game they searched everyone with wands which slowed down entry but wasn’t a problem.
