Seems by his own admission he wasn't even the best striker in the academy at the time. Difficult for any academy to get every decision spot on. There must be hundreds that pass through each year and you can't keep them all because "you never know he might turn out good". Can only go by what they show at the time.

This one certainly slipped through the net.

Hundreds is a bit of a stretch for Stevenage, probably 30 odd players in each "year" group.

But yeah everyone develops physically and technically at different stages. So no blame on Darren.

I'm hoping my athletic strength, speed and stamina, and my technical football ability will kick in soon.

Also get the feeling the Academy set up is in general terms now much better run and perhaps the recent players going on to PL clubs etc a sign of this .Most importantly with Academy status they cannot now just steal them for nought.
