My View from the East

As I was at the game today I thought I’d give my opinion on leaving the ground:

1. Dan Phillips was outstanding. I know Kemp was the official MotM but for me it was definitely Phillips. He has his detractors but I don’t remember him putting a foot wrong. So strong in the tackle, he gives everything. It was his tackle, run & shot that created the goal.
2. Freestone was also excellent. I was worried seeing Butler on the bench but needn’t have been. I’d heard Wycombe were strong on the right so I presume he was picked as a more defensive option.
3. Our defence is looking pretty solid. There’s always a couple of scares but generally they play well as a unit.
4. Reid ran his socks off today.
5. If Kemp leaves we’re in trouble!
6. Wycombe were awful & I can see them going down.
7. A very strange refereeing performance. Very fussy on a lot of things but let loads of obvious ones go.
8. We start games really slowly. We hardly had a kick in the first 20 minutes. The crowd was extremely quiet.
9. Second half was so much better again & it became enjoyable. I just wish we could score 2 or 3 so we could relax.

We have had a superb start to the season. Long may it continue!

I'll be the first to admit I've given Phillips a lot of grief over his positioning. Today he was fantastic. Thats what we need to see each week. Best performance from him since he signed. How these sponsors picked Kemp for MOTM is beyond me. Clearly not football people. We werent at our best going forwards, but defensively we were excellent, to a man. And thet ref?? Useless.

Wycombe were probably the slightly better team until we scored. Bit of a lucky goal but as has been the case this season we’ve been creating luck with hard work.

Phillips great. One dodgy moment where he gifted them possession instead of playing a simple ball to the wing. Freestone had a job to do and did a very good job of it.

Roberts not squaring it to Phoenix to wrap things up was criminal. Reid worked hard but a couple of occasions he should have pulled the trigger earlier, one of the traits that he usually has and results in a lot of goals. Goode got caught on the ball needlessly a couple of times too. Too much aimless punting for my liking. Direct is fine but it has to be structured.

We weren’t amazing, always good to get a win. Appreciate it sounds like I’m moaning. More a case of finding the holes in a victory. Would rather that than criticising us for being spineless (no chance of that this season I hope). After we went ahead we were the better team without a doubt. Just would have been nice to wrap things up earlier. What a great start we’ve made to the season.

Agree Freestone was fantastic, solid, especially first half down the ET side.

Not really sure how Kempy got MOTM today I assume whoever decided it wasn’t watching the game

Agree with that.

Philips MOTM by far. Freestone and Luther also very good.

Referee a disgrace. Anyone know his name? One to watch out for. Embarrassing

Simon Mather.

The same cunt who sent off JFC and the Portsmouth player together almost exactly two years ago, and had all four stands of the ground singing that he didn't know what he was doing, during BOTH halves of the match. I tweeted at the time that it was the worst officiating performance I had ever seen in 20 years of watching 50+ matches a season. He hasn't changed.

How many away fans were there? Heard 3779 from Drackers I think (total attendance).
