Home fans today.

For the season opener, off the back of a win, and with no Prem football interference.

Its just abysmal.

In advance of this, the " it's August and people are on holidays" excuse is just bull. Doesn't seem to affect other clubs.

Stevenage is a Tottenham/Arsenal town, always will be. Unfortunately, I don't think we will ever see any kind of significant crowd improvement.

I work for a company near Royston, there are several Cambridge United fans dotted about, braced for the usual piss taking come Monday. 😒 (yes I will remind them that they lost today)

Sounds silly but you could be right plus noticed on way back some kind of event in old bus station area in town. This just adds to the other reasons people have outlined.

We walked down the High St in the evening and it was rammed, thousands there. Any floating supporters may have taken this entertainment instead. May have accounted for a few hundred. Along with all the other distractions then I'm not surprised.
IT CAN ONLY GET BETTER.

I went past that at about 2. It was some sort of oriental festival. Lots of people about not sure any would normally go to Boro though.

We are prepared for, and therefore allow for, lower crowds right at the start of the season. This is due to school holidays, and also some supporters do wait until nearer Sept when they’ve decided whether we’re doing well or not! And the matchday packages are obviously quieter during August as schools and football teams are not as active generally. These have an impact on attendance.

The only matchday package team we had yesterday was from the United Arab Emirates! (Yeah we’re Global!).

However, the club shop was busier than I’ve ever known it for the first home game. So secondary spend is very good and very important.

The club shop was very slow, which may partly explain that.

A little word of advice for future seasons too if you would be so kind as to report back. A lot of our STH live outside of Stevenage or cannot get there in advance, so it really would make sense to have a dedicated window or queue or person dealing with people collecting their STs for our opening home match of the season.

Everybody in the shop had to queue together and it was a mix of people collecting STs, buying tickets for yesterday's match (should have done so at the North Stand windows), buying tickets for future home and away matches, and buying merchandise. A dedicated queue just for ST collections would have sped things up massively.

Couldn’t attend yesterday, abysmal I know. But I was in Asda in the morning and saw three or four people in Boro shirts. Despite being a stone’s throw from the ground it did make me a little bit proud to see Boro fans in the wild.

Would be good for the club to get more people through the door but it takes time. Can’t be disappointed at people who don’t exist for not existing and therefore not attending.

Almost identical number of home fans to the opening game last season, with the attendance around 150 higher today because of more away fans than Shrewsbury brought.

The past two seasons being the two highest average attendances ever in our history, getting about twice what we were getting in our conference days and around a thousand more than our stint in League One the first time around.

It isn't going to happen overnight, and we are about a century behind many EFL clubs in terms of being formed and having the time to build a fanbase, but crowds are definitely growing, and kids nowadays have us as their first team and wear our shirts around Stevenage and the surrounding towns and villages.

Honestly, I can't suggest anything new to try, as you rightly point out, the initiatives have little to no effect.

Even winning doesn't seem to make much difference.

I care, so it pisses me off when I see a town that doesn't seem to have any interest in it's local club.

Big Phill won't be around much longer.

Phil isn't going anywhere anytime soon, at most he'll give away 49% of the club to an investor.

When he does step.back, he'll probably pass his director role to Leon whilst quietly chucking cash in every season.

I’d put money on all crowds being lower. It’s not exclusive to sports. Gig ticket sales are down in general because people don’t have as much money to spend at the moment.
