🤣 That's not like it's a mistake either

"oh we thought footballers wages counted as R&D"

And how did HMRC not pick up on it sooner?

(Not read the article)

This is not my area of work and I cannot comment specifically but we do Have a specialist unit (in public domain) that concentrate on football related tax matters especially non operation of PAYE by clubs by saying some of salary is re image rights. In addition we attack many Tax Avoidance schemes many in the industry buy in to claim artificial losses to set against real income. Then of course there is the loan charge, probably most famous known footy case the old Rangers .
In all of this the promoters are the main issue plus a handful of Taz Agents who are complicit with them.As well as POTAS there is many new powers we have used recently eg Stop Notices you may have read about.

Went bust i think with HMRC creditor after Griggs pulled the plug,so I'm other words they paid everyone else in priority. In this situation if a phoenix club is formed and was can prove in affect same people behind it we can ask for a court to order that they put a security in an escrow account in case the fail to pay again.

I was just making a bad pun about Sev's use of 'R&D'

I like how Dundee got away with covering their nutritionist salary, some of their performance analyst salary and even some of their electricity bill under this R&D subsidy.

Just goes to show, a good creative tax accountant will generally save you money.

On your last para most accountants are ok and play by the rules. So called creative stuff is usually evasion or Avoidance.

If I ever earned enough to need a tax accountant I'd use Chuds, fewer morals than Sev, and a looser relationship with the law, even if he's not as qualified.

He's a numbers guy.

Sev is Mr safety, belt, braces and a cycle helmet just in case.

You? Skateboard in your underwear on gravel. Way more.fun but we might die a horrible death.

Risk V Reward....

100% reliable.

An underappreciated character trait.
