Edit: A bit unusual to play a PSF against a team in the same division?
Looking at Blackpool forum they don’t seem too impressed by how their team played yesterday. Apparently all their wingers out injured and so played wing-backs for width contrary to how they’d planned to set up this season.

I don't think so. Am sure we've done so a fair few times in recent years. Better a competitive game against our peers than a) getting a pumping from a strong PL team or b) a waste of time against a PL team who bring the stiffs 'cos the players are all off touring Singapore.

On the other hand, I remember we had a friendly against Norwich (I think it was them) scheduled and the we drew them in the EFL trophy or league cup and it got cancelled.

That has happened a few times in recent years, as it happened twice against Watford and once against Ipswich as well I seem to recall. Which is why I hoped we would draw Swansea away in the League Cup this year.

I don't recall us having played a side from our own division in a PSF, but we tend to play L2 and Championship sides often nowadays (QPR and Swansea, Barnet and MK this season for instance) whilst we are in L1, which are solid tests to prepare us for the real stuff.
