I guess this is the reward for getting our kick offs punted into the abyss.

I'm guessing Phil thinks we will sell slightly fewer than last season and is happy to subsidise us again to minimise the drop-off.
Good on him.
Hope we have a blinding start and the walk ups are higher than last season.

Now we just need to figure out how to score at home :)
Averaged less than a goal a game last season
But in all seriousness fair play to Fil could have increased prices like lot clubs are doing

Agree on general but as always I am moaning about the one free PSF removal. if nothing else they should perhaps just charge ST holders say just £5 for ET, a bit more for sitting That way the new odd person may sign up and if nothing else the PSF crowds may improve.

Agreed. Should be a freebie imo. Makes sense.

The terrace isn't open for PSFs as that would require more stewards, and cost the club more money to host the game.
We averaged 1,568 across our three home PSF last season, with 1,006 of them being home fans. I would suggest a large number of them would have been STH.
I don't see how the club would gain any benefit (beyond very marginal goodwill) from offering free (or reduced) entry to STH for them, all it would do is cost the club revenue. There is zero chance it would make any difference to ST sales, and whilst it may see a few more STH attend a PSF, for every extra one who attends (which would bring no/hardly any money in), the club would miss out on at least one STH who currently pays to attend no longer paying.
Ultimately PSF is about ensuring the team is ready for the season, it is not for the fans, and £12 is not much to ask for any fan who does want to attend.

How do you "suggest " a large proportion of our fans were STH,could be just local armchair brigadiers,Last one I went to most were clearly not Boro fans and mainly looking at their phones.
.Does not really matter but I still think club may have missed a trick on this

You think the ground is full of armchair fans coming to watch Stevenage vs Ipswich in a PSF (when they don't even attend league or cup matches) rather than our own fans? That is a mental suggestion.
I suggest it is mostly STH at them because the sort of fan who attends a PSF is the sort of fan who attends the majority of matches that team plays, and they tend to be STH. I also know plenty of our fans who have ST and attend all the PSFs, whereas those I know who don't have ST, tend not to.
What trick has the club missed here in your eyes? Genuinely interested, taking into account that it will almost certainly cost the club revenue, what benefit you think they would get from giving out free tickets to STH? They will have looked into it and considered the implications, with the benefit of the data they hold, of removing said freebie. PW doesn't make decisions that impact the club's finances on a whim.

You mean he thought long and hard about employing Sheringham?.

Didn't that appointment coincide with new directors/investment.
I think those putting funds into the club wanted a change of direction from Westley and the glamour of a big name manager secured that investment.
So a decision that potentially was based on money.

We had a very high attendance the season he was employed IIRC, and it could be argued he raised the profile of the club to get more people in through the gate when we were actually then doing well under Evans.
Football wise Sheringham was a disaster, but financially I don't think it was

Last PSF and lots prior I went was full of mainly bods , clearly not regulars and by implication not STH.Lots had brought the Mrs and numerous offspring who just on whole running were around like it was a playground .plus the adults were more interested in talking or looking at their phone. But at least they paid to get in I suppose .

To be fair, there have been many league matches this season where I was more interested in talking or looking at my phone.

If we have an Arsenal or Spurs XI then yes, you will get lots of non regulars taking their kids to "see Araenal" for cheaper than a train trip for 4 to the Emirates for the Emirates Cup.
Not sure Watford or Ipswich have the same drawm

Aye, and if he hasn't been since they stopped being free (which is the impression I get, happy to be corrected) then it has been many many years (about a decade?), and the whole club and our fanbase now is almost unrecognisable from what it was back then.
But mostly, back to the original point, nobody is going to buy a ST because it includes a free £12 PSF, the majority of people interested in attending a PSF would pay the £12 to do so, and if it was free then a STH who wouldn't have gone but now would (would there be that many?) still wouldn't be giving the club any extra money but all those STH who would have paid now aren't, so the club would be losing revenue. So what possible benefit(s) does the club get from doing so? I am honestly interested in an answer as I cannot think of one and am curious whether I am missing something, or whether it is just that HB seems to fancy attending PSFs but doesn't want to pay for them (which is fair enough if the case)?

No benefit but perhaps the goodwill of loyal fans.
Like when they put £200 behind the bar at an away game in the winter for the loyal fans to have a free drink. No benefit to the club doing it but builds a bond with the fans.

As I said in my original post, that beyond some goodwill is there any other reason?
It could be argued that is reason enough of course, and ultimately would only cost us a few grand, but when it says the club are missing a trick by not doing so, it read to me that I am missing some other benefit they would be getting in doing so, so was wondering what it might be. I always like to be educated on things I may have overlooked.

Pre-season is rubbish now. It's all behind closed doors, whilst all the Premier League sides travel around the world. They play too many games don't you know?

Yeah on the playing too many games some also now have post season tours . On the FAC replay thing they have massive squads and could easily field a team.Look at the rounds of the League cup, they field a second , third string , so what's the excuse.
