Trotters (A)

Just done my research into the Trotters... think we need to be wary of the big man up front.

If we could have a striker who was half decent we would be ok.
I’m not asking for much. Just someone a bit better than we have now.

Thought Bolton look like the ones who need better strikers. If ours got into the positions they did we'd have scored them. Our problem is we never get an opening like they had.
Shame Phillips couldn't keep his shot down at the end, that'd been a nice ending to the season. But overall a reasonable performance after a shaky start.
14th in the league is a good finish. Higher than I was expecting at the start of the season.

I’ve been urging Phillips to shoot for some time as I think he’s got a powerful strike on him, but the last three games, when he has put in a powerful strike, all three have gone over the top.

No idea why players feel the need to break the back of the net, just get the thing on target and anything can happen!

With more attacking ambition and a more open style, would we have won more or lost more though?
The eternal question.

Based on the way we were so exposed today and should have been 3-0 down after 20 mins, we would have finished with fewer points.

Looked like we were struggling to adjust to the shape and individual responsibilities. The game should have been out of sight after 15 mins. One of their missed chances was unbelievable. However, we really grew into the game. Was much more enjoyable than our average showing this year.
Just wish Roberts wasn't so scared to shot!

The game Harvey White had summed up succinctly by the highlight of them twice passing straight at him in their own half and him promptly returning the ball both times.
For their goal Phillips looks at his man, sees where he is, then decides five seconds later the bloke must somehow be somewhere else.
The key thing this season is when we do shit stuff it's usually compensated for by something else elsewhere. We got a point in each of the last two games after a first 45 where we looked completely gone.

Harvey White, and Dan Phillips, did sterling work considering we seemed to be completely abandoning them in midfield. Yes, White had that moment. But I really don't get the hate towards him. He's only 23!

I thought White did a lot of good defensive work against Bolton.
If that's what his job is then he did well. I just thought his role was to be the creative midfielder and with that I don't see him create much ever.
The reason he hasn't made my first XI is because he gives us nothing going forward and previously wasn't as good defensively. That part of his game is a lot better now.
So if you're telling me he's a defensive midfielder then fair enough, I might include him as that, but Phillips and LT are probably still ahead of him in that role.

Re: Fair result

I would say in 90% of matches Harvey plays far too deep to be considered, or expected to play, as a creative midfielder that is going to offer much offensively, bar from set-pieces (which before anybody pipes up, are hit and miss, but you can say the same for every player who ever takes them for us).

We missed JFC massively. I'm hoping we give him one more year (providing he's back for pre-season) but would understand if we did get rid.

One of the issues is will have LT next season much.? Hoping not as mad as looks and not another ACL..Freeman also probably out all next season with this , whether if we now keep him now.

Very much like the other strikers we have he's a NL or L2 no.9 who might hit a purple patch and get double figures at our level once in five seasons.

That'll do his confidence a load of good...

See when Young gets the ball in front of goal he can be effective. When he is out on the left running at players, not so much as shown by his other opportunity today.

I didn't notice anything.
And suspect him being subbed off was because he was on a booking so no point risking Drysdale giving him a second booking and him therefore missing the opening game next season.

The super-talented youngsters typically get picked up by Premier League academies before turning 16/17. Ben Wilmot was a bit of an exception, perhaps helped by his Dad's history with the club.
It's the next-best academy prospects that stay and end up getting tested out in match day squads before ending up on a series of loans in the 6th/7th tiers.
