This might give an idea of how much we might lose by relegation.Accept they get bigger crowds but near enough comparable clubs.

When you wrote ‘the cost of going down’ I thought it might be about the £50-ers around Kings Cross. Well, so I’ve heard.

Yeah… you could inspect their tax returns whilst you’re there.

Their figure is the same as I said on here a few days ago. Huge amounts that would reduce the quality of player (and manager) we could afford, and why ensuring we survive in this division is crucial every year, which Revs comfortably achieved.

It's not crucial, it's all relative.
Yes we'd have less capable.players in L2 due to costs, but so do the majority of other clubs.
We'd have a top third L2 budget I'd guess so we'd likely be better off in terms of wins.
Whereas in L1 our budget is probably stretching to reach mid table most of the time so we have to overachieve against bigger spending more attractive (from recruitment perspective) clubs to achieve a playoff push.
Not that it's a good argument for getting relegated.

That's why shorter contracts are part of our business model.
Year 1 if we're stuck with an expensive squad we try to bounce straight back or sell the high earners to offset the lost revenue.
Year 2 we have a smaller squad, use the kids a bit more and a reduced wage bill to minimise losses.

Also assume that some player contracts may have an automatic drop in the event of relegation (and conversely a rise following promotion).
