Grew up in the 60's and 70's in Stevenage. Originally in Homestead Moat, and later along Canterbury Way. I've never thought of Stevenage as a nice place to live. It's practical, but not 'nice'. I left at 18, and have to admit I don't miss it. Now in Suffolk.

Stevenage is a pretty dull place to live but it's definitely far from the worst. Astonishing things start appearing the further away from the M25 one gets.

The original new town, was groundbreaking, well planned road and cycle network, every house had a garden, decent public transport links, loads of green spaces, every estate had its own community hub/pub and infant/junior school, first ever pedestrianised town centre.
Still got a lot of that going for it. Which is why it's still growing, maybe too fast/big.

Stevenage is growing fast and as you say maybe a bit too fast. The growth in our town is not an isolated case. All of this part of Hertfordshire and South Beds, along the A1 corridor, is growing fast. As Stevenage is the major town in the area with great career opportunities and very good transport links to London it is attracting lots of people. Property in the town is selling fast too so to many it is very desirable. There is certainly a buz about the place and a relatively young population. If I go back to where I was born, WGC, it is a town with an ageing population and seems very stagnant. Give me Stevenage any day.

I mean this is a country where our second biggest city is currently piling up with rat-infested rubbish but the class of media people and retired folk in the shires can still turn their noses up at a place for having an ugly leisure centre.

Talking of people from the Shires, there was a petition in Marlow recently to try to block a new Spoons as it would attract the "wrong sort of people".My sort of the wrong people are the idiots who frequent nearby Henley Regatta or Royal Ascot.Rant over.

Wife has relatives in Henley so we used to visit a lot.
Town is full of twats, even when there is no regatta.
It's where they grow Hooray Henrys and rugger fans, in a big Petri dish just behind M&S. They let them out every weekend to drink Pimms and take the train to Twickers.

Oooh, I dunno. I suspect there are a lot more twats in Stevenage than Henley. I know where Iโd rather live if I had the chance and it definitely isnโt here.

I was trying to find a full list but all you seem to be able to do is search for a place. Wondering what came bottom.

Says it's every town and village in the UK too, but I searched loads villages and none included.
Also ranks St Albans number 51 for value, whilst also saying it has the highest average family home cost at almost a million pounds, so should rank bottom for value
Load of clickbait shite

It only does populations of 5000 or more.
Also says in the disclaimer it isn't a list of best and worst places to live, it's a ranking of best places to live, so anywhere on the list is good ๐คฃ
