Weird starting 11 last night.
Roberts and List starting as inverted wingers but neither willing to cut in on their stronger foot.
A makeshift back 4, but we play Kemp at CM instead of a holding midfielder (White/King I believe would have swept up Boltons 2nd goal)
Taye not at fault for any goals but if it aint broke dont fix it. Coops was bang in form and maybe saves one of the goals with better positioning?
Cant defend Revs today im afraid
Credit to Bolton, who are the best side we have played in fairness, wouldnt be surprised if they came 2nd.
Huge game next week.

He has issues with his mental health. Please don’t judge him as bad. He was on the floor crying outside after being roughed up in the ground.

It was just Blunt.
We ran around plenty but you can't just work harder, you need a spark against half decent teams. Effort levels won't keep Revs in the job.
We played well going forward once White and Co came on, but it only lasted about 15 minutes. Otherwise we were too reactive and while we pushed, did we really deserve a second goal?
And to concede 6-7 shots on target, (and concede from 4 of them) is not gonna help our confidence .

Creativity, or rather the lack ofit , seems to be a permanent problem. Young (where was he last night?) and Kemp scored 30 goals between them in half a season for Swindon last year and BGR got 21 for us, so don't tell me we don't have natural finishers. But you have to have something to finish. We need a system that suits the strengths of the players we've got. Instead we have too many square pegs forced into round holes.

If we don’t turn it around tonight the predictable anti-Revs dross will no doubt be all over this place later.
I do, however, think Saturday could be a bit of a watershed. A positive result is expected (winning and winning well) and if we don’t get it the shit will hit the fan.
Goals aren’t coming despite us having more strikers than a miners union in the 80s and the clean sheets have started to be soiled more regularly. Those two things happening simultaneously isn’t good.
We have the squad to not be in trouble. It’s not the time to panic but it may well be the time for some questions to be asked of the management team by PW and the board.

And rightly so. Things were fine whilst we were doing OK, but now we are not he doesn't seem to have any idea how to change it. Just plays the same formation and "hopes" something will change. He has to make some big changes and quickly

Looking at the bench tonight we didn't have anyone to change the game. Kemp does a lot of hard work for a headless chicken. His goal was on a plate. Takes me back to the Revell days.

Like the times we were predictably shit when beating Wrexham and Barnsley for example.
Things need to improve but a bit of balanced reasoning wouldn’t go amiss.
I was against Revs being given the job in the summer but the bloke is trying his best to do the job. That effort in itself should be enough for sections of our fans to not treat him the way he is being treated. The same goes for the players who are being scapegoated recently. Nobody should be slagged off if they’re giving their all.
If things don’t improve then he should go absolutely but in the meantime nothing is gained by being a miserable I told you so merchant.

The Wrexham game was a fantastic 3 points but it was a wonderful strike from outside the box followed by a really resolute defensive performance. Same at Mansfield, cracking freekick followed by little else going forwards but with a good defensive performance to hold our lead.
Undoubtedly there’s no coincidence the results have started going against us after injuries/fitness at the back, but we can’t say the signs haven’t been there going forwards.
Every game I’ve been to this season we’ve had at least 45 minutes where we’ve lacked any sort of creativity on the ball and looked as blunt as a butter knife.
For me the ‘performance’ of our losses outweighs the performance of our wins. But would I take our league position come the end of the season? Yes.

I agree entirely. And we can’t rely on moments of brilliance/luck.
The Peterborough game we looked like we had some attacking intent. Perhaps that late defeat has hit us harder than we realised. But it proved that the players in this squad can do it. It’s now on Revs and the management team to get them threatening in attack in every game.
It sure isn’t fun to watch at the moment. I’m not backing the manager with unbridled positivity by any means but hopefully he turns it around for the sake of the club and us fans watching. If not, let’s hope PW knows when to act and has a plan if he has to do so.

I think Peterborough play in such a way that it allows you to play entertaining attacking football.
Other teams aren't as easy going and know how to stop you playing that game. If you have no plan B then you get what we are now seeing. A side unable to play their football when there is an opposition stopping them.
The shits side will just negate you and the top sides will play your game better than you, because they have better players/bigger budget.
It's why I've always been a fan of big strong and physical and not tippy tappy.

For me the job in hand he has is to big for him,I asked the question last time on here can we lose 3 on the trott. I've seen no improvement in the last 3 games so I can't see getting anything from the next league game.Bolton tonight know how to score goals and defend a game we don't and they are not the first club to do so

They've lost the ability to pass, control the ball. Theres no shape to the team. Butler is the only player that gets wide, but he can't cross a ball to any of our players. Bolton had acres of room on the ball. Phillips is a joke because he never marks anyone in open play. Kemp is not suited to League 1 because it's too physical. 2 v 0 down at half time and Revs makes zero changes. Just more huffing and puffing with no end result. I wanted Revs to be good be he isn't showing anything that tells me he can change things around. Try 4 4 2 or something.

I've ask the question before, but which part of his game do you think is good? Because he puts in a decent tackle occasionally or can do a roulette turn? Looks at what he offers the midfield both offensively and defensively, has he even created one chance?
Although to be fair, I'm not sure any of our midfield are up to standard at present.

I think he does a good job & gives a lot of energy. He’s very effective at breaking up opposition attacks & getting a foot in. His distribution isn’t great though.
I think he’s one of the few players who have been performing ok lately.
I still don’t see what Smith brings to the team - so many attacks break down because of him & his positioning is poor.

Buts put some lovely balls in the box tonight. One in particular in the 2nd half was bang in the danger zone. Think it was Pidge that made nothing of it.
Our front line is non-existent.
Pidge was poor IMO. (By his standards)
Roberts was OK as was Philip’s. (Again)
Need a CB back soon
Hopefully Saturday will restore the confidence.
Love Revs as a person, have no confidence he will make any further significant impact to turn this around.

That last paragraph...
We almost all like Revs as a man, albeit we don't really know him. We like his work ethic and his passion.
Are we allowing our warmth towards him to colour our judgement on his performance. Because the board shouldn't. And they backed him heavily in the summer.
But don't forget how many good managerial appointments our board have made in the last 15 years.
I'm for sticking with Revs, for now.

Not got the players for a 4-4-2, the 4-2-3-1 isn't working at the moment, maybe try a 4-5-1 to try and shore up the goals were conceding. Would take a couple of 0-0's in the next 2 league games.

He deserves more respect for sure; it's not like all problems at the club at the moment are directly his fault. The players need to take some responsibility. Other than Kemp's goal, Pidge was our main attacking threat. List, Reid and Roberts basically anonymous.
I am concerned where our next points are coming from. Reading and Birmingham are going be tough games. But then I thought that about Wrexham.
I'd consider starting Cooper in goal again. Maybe going to a 5 at the back, even if it means playing someone out of position. We can't keep on leaking goals like we are.

A 5 not doing their jobs properly doesn't defend better than a 4 not doing their jobs properly. Formations are only as good as the players they contain.

I'm just reminded of Revs having his second summer in charge. Since Wilkins had come in we'd turned our form around, had a well-balanced squad with some decent pros, and started with a couple of good wins.
Then Bradford took us apart and nobody looked like they'd ever played on the same team ever again.
