Appéré signs

Signs from Northampton can play striker or on the wing, good signing in my opinion 👍

I have no clue who he is or whether he is any good.
But yay! Hope he does goals.

He's scotch, with a girly French name.
Bet school was fun...

Exactly the sort of player to partner with Reid. A target man is good but I can see him creating lots of space in behind for Reid to exploit, whether that’s up top or out wide.
What appere the two would make. I love this management team already. Champions by October.

To be honest be surprised if Reid is still here come start of season.
Has another 2 internationals coming up and if does alright will make the chance even greater

I would be very surprised if he isn't with us when we kick off the season.

The question is likely whether he's worth more to another club than us. For example, is he worth north of £500k to another team given he'd have little to no resale value in 2-3 years time?

If we get a decent offer then we should let him go. But I don’t think we’ll get a decent offer. Clarke-Harris is a better striker and nobody snapped Peterborough’s arm off for him despite him being on the transfer list for the entirety of last season.

Charlton made a bid for Clarke-Harris in January which Peterborough accepted from memory?

He didn’t go though. So moot point really.

Re: Reid

Considering we were offered a 6-figure fee for Presley and rejected it. That to me suggests we wouldn’t be prepared to sell Reid unless it was a silly amount of money. Also whilst he was bagging them in the first half of the season, his dip in form coincided with our fall from grace.
Whilst we could definitely benefit from a scale up in finances, we’re still one of the only clubs to be operating a profit so I would argue we’d be better off retaining our talent than cashing in on it and potentially relegating ourselves. We’re also not a big name club that can just ‘go and splash’ that money on another big name signing because we don’t have that sort of pull.
He’s had one excellent season with us and he’s 29. Would a championship club really come knocking and offer him a big contract, knowing he’s a bit of a gamble at that level? I’m unconvinced…

We also need to think he is out of contract in a years time. So anything between 250-500 would need to be considered.

How much would a replacement (or replacements) cost though when fees and wages are factored in?
The transfer market for strikers in particular has become massively inflated.

Well if free transfer then nothing :).
We won’t risk losing Reid for nothing next summer that’s a fact. Be a new contract which would be an increase in wages which. Could we afford or have to sell.
We all know we’re a club that has to balance the books.

I'm always concerned when a player is described as a striker/winger because usually it means they're not quite either! Hopefully he proves me wrong

I am pleased.
Not the greatest goal return, but is a proper handful of a player.
He stood out when we faced them away in our L2 promotion season, gave our CBs a torrid afternoon, scored their goal and won MOTM. Also scored against us in the home match that season.

This 100 %, he gave us a REALLY hard time on that day. If he can deliver anything like that he'll be the partner that Reidy needs

No mention of length of contract but I suspect at least 2 yrs. Also per Cobblers site they offered him a new contact Inc being highest paid player there, so must be on a decent wedge with us .

Re: Appéré signs

No. They offered him a new contract, he turned it down because he wanted more money which would have made him their highest earner, which they declined.
Doesn't mean what they say is true and doesn't mean we are paying him silly money.

Re: Appéré signs

More than they offered, probably. More than their highest earner, not necessarily.
Nor do we know what they are paying nowadays. They lost £1mil on their latest accounts and have £9mil of debts, so they may be cutting back accordingly, whilst we made profit on our latest accounts and had a £1mil in the bank.
