Stripes

There were TWO other people in there after the match today.

Back in the day it would have plenty of people in there and a cracking atmosphere after a win.

They obviously don't care as it doesn't bring in the money of sponsorship and so on, but the club really needs to do something to encourage its fans back in there again as drinking in the club's bar instead of a local pub must surely help with unity and engagement, and means they aren't paying three staff members to just stand there?

Such a shame that they are falling so short in terms of fan engagement in numerous different aspects at present when, after so many years of dirge and with fans stopping attending at a greater rate than ever before, it is arguably more important than ever to keep and attract fans right now.

Just to let you know, I’m speaking to the relevant people at the club regarding the issues raised in this thread, especially regarding advertising/promoting post match opening of the BHS and the temperature.

I have also asked for an update on the future general usage of the 76 lounge.

Yep, it usually closes at 6.

Seems like the club has listened to feedback from fans and SLO about various things and are giving it a try. Good on them.

Now let's hope it pays off and our fans use it! See you all in there after our second straight win!

The 76 lounge should have been used for fans to watch the lunch time games and have a beer or three before the game then after pop in for a couple more and check the other results etc on way home like it was suppose to be used for and touted to investors
Thus leaving stripes for the weddings and birthday functions I think people stopped going in there because they got shoved in a little end room and thrown out after an hour !

Your right though f as hs are staying away in droves and the club and fans have never been so far apart where as once the fans where a big part of Stevenage and now Wallace just don’t seem to care anymore just wants to grab grab grab

You are a good egg.

I have no idea what Stripes is like pre-match in terms of numbers as I never go in there beforehand so not sure if an issue, but in terms of post-match might it be an idea that the 76 Lounge is available to all? I may be wrong (anybody who knows please correct me if I am), but I would imagine the players' families go home at FT rather than hanging around, and would imagine a lot of those in hospitality do likewise, so guess there are not many people in there after the game? If so, I am sure that that bar being available would see more of our fans staying behind for a drink or two after games?

Other than the selection of beers available and the prices, which I know are an issue for many, the other complaint I know many have made in the past, and the reason they go straight to the pub at FT, is that Stripes closes during the middle of the late game and they don't want to have to miss some of the action when moving from being kicked out of Stripes and getting to the pub to watch the conclusion. Obviously this is a decision that depends on numbers/takings versus staff wages, and is also sometimes because of a function in the evening.

It is just such a shame that out of 2000+ people, only a literal handful currently hang around afterwards for a drink, this is clearly a huge wasted opportunity for additional income across the season.

We stay for a beer after the game, 76 Lounge closes at 17.30, the players families are still in there waiting when we leave.

Taylor was in there when we left Saturday, quickest in the shower.

Think if players families went back to the West then opening up to fans would be much easier.

Missed this originally. Thanks for the info.

I always thought it was advertised as remaining open until 7/7:30, but maybe that was just a one-off, or at the start of the season and they have since reduced it.

I know from conversations with various people around the club/who engage with them, that the usage of it is a regular question, so will be interesting to see what happens. Typical that the one game (Crawley on BD) the 76 Lounge was going to be accessible to all before and after the game, and could have been a useful yardstick, the match was postponed!

But as said above, you can only credit them for taking on board some of the points raised in this thread, I just hope they give it a suitable enough time to test how it goes down, and that our fans use it!

No worries, must have been as the Port Vale game I went to on 21st August was a 5.30 finish as well.

Believe changes are coming, don't know what they are but hopefully it can be good for all the fans in general, doubt it will please everyone tho.

I think at the very least after the game the 76 Lounge should be used and not Stripes.

76 lounge being visible as you leave the ET, all warm and inviting would surely attract some passing "fancy a quick one before we go and sit in the car park exit queue for 20 minutes" crowd.

Once you get them in the door they might stay for a second and third.

Stripes is out of sight and therefore out of mind.

Non-league grounds with one way in or out that happens to past the clubhouse have a big advantage there.

Locally I've noticed that grassroots football has become really popular with people treating it as a few beers with mates that happens to have a game at it, compared to pre-COVID. It's a shame the club isn't leveraging the newfound appreciation that people have of their Saturday afternoons. It feels like many people are still holding off on a big night out but perfectly happy to spend it in a football ground. Admittedly drinking in the stands is a huge advantage we don't have.

I’ve only been in twice this season, once pre game and once lost game. Was similar on both occasions. Shame, I remember when it would be heaving pre game, with people coming down to watch the early KO on tv. Not sure how you get back to that, promotions, advertising but ultimately reliant on a winning team on the pitch to bring more people out and enjoy the day. They could also stop the ridiculous queueing in a long line at the bar which inevitably makes the bar staff work slower and people end up queueing for 20 mins for an overpriced drink.

Trying to keep beer fresh and pipes clean when you are generally only opening the taps once a week at most is a bar manager's nightmare.

Wouldn't be surprised if they have to put new barrels on every home match, which will generate a lot of waste, and expense.

A significant proportion aare still covid nervous/sensible and whilst happy to attend the match and stand outdoors, don't relish the thought of being in a crowded bar (although clearly it wasn't crowded post-match).

Maybe if they advertised they were showing the 5:30 kick-off (there's one almost every Saturday) on the back of 50-50 tickets, on the toilet posters and via Drackers pre-match and at HT, as well as on the scoreboard, you might get a few more.

FWIW, I'm being pretty cautious in terms of Covid at the moment. Hoping to get to some games (and stripes) when numbers are more normal but at the moment seems like a guaranteed way to end up in isolation.

But I am sure you telling them they are doing really well every week would also have resulted in them magically growing some balls and a backdone and turning it around, despite them having been shit for months, under multiple managers and coaches.

You say a"large" number of players were not performing. So it would take a large number of players to put it right? Out of 14 players used, 4 were new ones, thats 28.5%. So most of the players were performing 71.5%. Get things in perspective, you get over excited at times. I expect better from you, being the fans spokesman.

2) If it was for attention as you claim, nobody else has made a big deal of it or taken issue with it (as they agree, so does Tisdale if you listen to his comments after the game), it is solely you, so if you don't like me getting attention you should probably quieten down as you, and you alone, are drawing the attention to it/me.

Yes he did?

He talked about proper players playing proper football.

Which specifically, by omission, excludes maggots*.

Because maggots are not proper players by definition, they are maggots which don't have feet, and feet are a requisite part of a proper footballer (accepting differently abled people are the exception that proves the rule).

*I am inclined to ignore the fact that even players Chuds does not like have feet two so are clearly not maggots as it does not validate the direction of the discourse being progressed ajove.
