Summer Improvements

How does everyone want to see us strengthen the team this summer?

Which positions do you think are weaknesses, and what do you think the team lacked in terms of playing style? (i.e. we need better tacklers, more fitness, better creativity, etc etc)

Personally I'd like to see us get a proper midfield general. Someone who can boss the game. Hopefully Dino can find another Bossie type player in the depths of non-league. I also think we massively need a proper left winger. And of course centre halves, since we have 1 (?) left now Wilmott has gone.

Midfield general is a must. I bore everyone with it at every game but somebody who isn't afraid to battle and puts his foot on the ball and slows it all down. We need to stop this freneticism (is that a word?) every time we get the ball.

Who the hell is out there who can do this ? (now we have our pockets bulging with used notes)

and above all what we need is to get a group together who give a shit and want to achieve something in their personal careers - we have done our bit as a donkey sanctuary for the last couple of years

I really think Dino gets all this - he is no mug - so here is hoping for good things this year

I hear from reliable sources that we offered Nicky Adams a contract, but he turned it down in favour of staying up north. I hear from the same source that we're considering re-signing Joel Byrom, who Adams knows well from their time at Northampton. Not sure how to feel about it really, I think his time here is probably left in the past.

That's what we originally signed Jack King for but then Sarlly realised he wasn't up for it. So instead we had an expensive defender on our books.

Bring back Dave McAllister.

Spot on - having that 'general' in the middle would also allow McKee and our others players to thrive. I haven't been able to put my finger on it but you're right about the mad rush every time we get the ball in the middle. Bostwick would be ideal but we'll never get him back, so hopefully someone like Ball (?) might be able to do the job.

Two proper left sided players should be a priority, as well as an experienced centre back

That is of course until Dave starts calling me, crying down the phone, telling me how the East isn't the same without me.

Indeed. I find very little to complain about here. The house prices are quite high and the wages aren't as good as London, but day-to-day, it's a very easy going and stress free city. I work in finance here, as I did in London, and work 8.30 - 5 every day, unlike in London where I was doing 7.30 - 6.30. If I work 2/3 mins past 5, people will be asking me why I'm not packing up/leaving. Its so bizarre how different the culture is. Whenever I left at 5/5.30 in London, to go to a mid-week game, people would look at me like I just shot their cat.

I highly recommend Vancouver, at least for a visit. June - September is best. Which also coincides with Alaskan cruise season... So many great things to do here in the Summer. And the beer is surprisingly good, too.

Now. Swifts, hooded crows, grey heron, nuthatches, house sparrow, feral pigeon, great spotted woodpecker, blackbird, blue tit, goldfinch, swallow, mallard, starling, jackdaw during 16.5 miles wandering around Vienna. Just resting my feet before I head back to a bar I spotted showing the football later on.

Lots of lambs in the fields where I walk the dogs at the moment.

And when the sun's out the Kites are about in abundance, and a few Buzzards.

Saw some Muntjac in the distance this morning too, luckily the dogs didn't.

Wingers if we intend to use wingers at any point next season. Not seen much evidence of that in recent years, but who knows under Dino.

3CBs seems sensible, I see Ronnie moving there, him and Wilko, plus Van Cooten maybe, but one more is probably sensible since either TVC or Ronnie will spend a lot of their time at Right Back.

A striker to replace Godden? Newton and Revell with one to come off the bench to spell one of them is the absolute minimum we need. I guess Andron might be ready to step up more regularly next season.

Left back. We seem to say that every summer since Lairdy left :-/

From what I saw in the last couple of games and what Dino has been saying (when purchasing Luther), I can see us playing 3-5-2 with Ronnie as one of the CBs.

So I think we need an attacking left back/ left wing back certainly.

I'm fine with 3-5-2 provided we don't do it with three strikers wasting one of them at wide midfield.

So a striker, a goalkeeper, a midfielder, a full back and a centre back.... Oh and a winger.

Apart from that we're sorted.

Oh and TVC will be loaned out if the released list is anything to go by, it's aid he was available, so another centre back/full back

And no way will Dino play 3 at the back.
